I have now fire 500 rounds through my SR1911 and thought I would do a review of sorts. I have a military background so I am not a total newbie but I am not that experienced with guns in general and 1911's in particular. I just like to shoot.

After some initial problems with feeding, caused by a little piece of label getting into the magazine, the feed and ejection has been flawless. I am now shooting 230gr Hard Cast reloads with no problems. I shoot in a relatively rapid style of acquire target and pull trigger. I am not shooting for the ultimate in accuracy. My typical 10 round group at 10 yards would consist of most rounds in a 3-4" group with 1 or two fliers out to 5-6". The fliers are my shooting technique. At 15 yards the groups go up by a couple of inches. The 1911 points very well and the trigger seems pretty decent although by no means a match trigger. Overall a little better than my Sig 226 SRT but not as good as my tuned cowboy revolvers. Accuracy is about the same as the Sig. That is, the limit is me not the gun. The front sight has not fallen of so far, apparently a reasonably common problem. The sights seem pretty good, easy to see with my old eyes and are to be pretty much spot on for aiming at 10 to 15 yards. My range is limited to 15 yards so I can't comment beyond that.

Considering this is a "value" gun I am very happy. It was 1/2 the price of my Sig. So far it is reliable, shoots well and looks good. It is a reasonably traditional looking and functioning 1911, well except that it is stainless, which I like. Fit and finish seem pretty good although clearly not as good as a hand built 1911 but it is a 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of a semi custom. I bought it because I wanted a 1911 without getting silly in price and it has exceeded my expectations. The more I use it the more I like it. It goes bang every time and shoots better than I do so so what is not to like.

Further Update. Another 150 rounds and I thought I had a fail to feed fully but no, me being a dumb arse. I didn't let the trigger fully reset. I guess I am just used to my Sig with the short reset trigger. This was a new reload I was trying out. This time with copper jacketed bullets and Trail Boss powder. Trail Boss at full load 4.5 grains gives a pretty mild recoil but accuracy is still good. No chance of over charging the case with Trail Boss, it is full. Might be a bit light for those who like a bit more oomph but for those who are recoil averse seems pretty good. So far I have used FMJ, Hard Cast lead and Copper jacketed. No problems with any of them. I keep meaning to post a target but I forget to take the photo. Next update.

Your feeding problems, was that when the slide would fail to close completely pushing the bullet down into the casing? That seems to be an issue I have with the SR1911 once in a while.

Basically the bullet wouldn't feed fully into the chamber so the hammer wouldn't fully set, when the hammer fell no bang. It was always the last round on the 8 round mag. I discovered that a little piece of the warning label had got jambed in the mag. Think that it pushed the cartridge of line a little causing the misfeed. When I cleaned the mag everything worked fine. No problems since.

Nice read. I wanted one for a while now.
Maybe I will pull the trigger on one.
Cheers

I certainly wouldn't let the relatively low price put you of. It is not an Ed Brown but it seems to work pretty well. The thing I like the most is it doesn't have the dumb arse series 80 safety to get in the way. It has a grip safety and a manual safety, really how many safeties do you need. When safeties start to affect the function of the gun in a negative way I believe they are excessive. Lets face it the safest gun has no bullets in it after that it is all the nut using the gun.

Ah, seems to be a different problem than what I have. Mine FTF's and then the slide stays open a little bit because the cartridge doesn't fully enter the chamber. The result is the bullet gets pushed down into the casing making the cartridge unusable.

With mine I just had to rack the slide to get the cartridge out new mag and of you go. The cartridges were fine. From what I am told most misfeeds are caused by the mag issues, more common in 8 or more round mags due to the change in spring pressure. I am by no means an expert on 1911 issues and am only commenting on what I have heard.

How clean is the ammo? When you say hard cast s that lead sans copper? Lead build up / dirty powder can make things sticky. New gun, tight tolerances too. I shot my Scorpion 1911 today with Norc ammo - dirty cases, dirty powder. After 100 rounds, the slide release won't drop with full mag.... needs a cleaning now - rounds still feed and gun shoots fine but you can tell its filthy.

Norc ammo will always give you a bit of trouble. I have ran it in a Just Right Carbine and a Ruger SR1911 and I can tell you it really mucks up the works. In the JRC, after 50 rounds I needed to clean the feed ramp because the dirt was causing rounds to stick and hang up (especially the last round). The SR1911 on the other hand seems to handle the grime a bit better but it still fell to the same issue but just after ~150 rounds.

Both guns needed a good scrub after that range visit.. The SR1911 was so black you could barely tell it was stainless haha.

while the Norc ammo I was using was dirty, it was no where near that bad. There was a bit around the breech, and a fair amount on the muzzle, but it wasn't horrible after 150-200. It cleaned quickly and easily

hey, that's funny, I had a bit of label in my mag well, making the mag hang up! I cleaned that out and the pistol has been perfect ever since

I think the warning label should come with a warning label. Can't have to many labels can we? At least they didn't engrave it on the side of the gun like some I have seen. Personally I believe in Darwin, if you are too stupid you die. Fancy a gun with a bullet in it being dangerous. Who would have thought?
