Best Price on Savage Mk.II FV?

I am looking for an FV to use as a project gun. I am replacing the stock, so basically I want the cheapest heavy barrel Mk.II barreled action I can find. Bonus points if it is in the southern Alberta area to avoid shipping charges, but that isn't crucial.

Any leads, info, tips appreciated.

Good question, but I don't imagine it would be economical. They sell bare actions for some of the centerfire rifles and they cost almost as much as the complete rifles.

They show what looks like an FV for $239.99, that is better than I expected. I was staying away from the EE because of the new +10% pricing that most are looking for. I am not in a rush, maybe I will give the EE a few weeks and see what turns up.

Yes I happen to know my Savage the models all too well. Synthetic stock (F) and heavy barrel (V).

I had to wait 2 months for it mind you but it was well worth the wait. Sitting in an SSS stock now and looking good.

If you aren't using a bipod or wrapping a sling too taught when shooting, the synthetic stock is alright. Make sure the barrel is floated from the factory, which it should. My complaint with the FV model is that it's extremely muzzle heavy since the rear of the stock is hollow. I added a cheek riser pack to it and it balances much better, and also helps with seeing through the scope since the FV model comes with a synthetic stock designed for use with iron sight. (low comb)

He said he is replacing the stock so being front heavy with that tupperware stock doesn't matter.

That is a great deal for the FV, I was just making sure as the F is listed at $199 in several places and would still be a decent deal if you got PST/GST in on the price.

Yep. It guaranteed won't be front heavy when I am done with it.

A tube gun stock/chassis that uses AR components (hand guard, stock and pistol grip). I have it mostly designed and laid out based on my older non-accutrigger Mk.II receiver but can't finalize it until I get an E model in my hands to confirm the detail changes. I will be modeling the parts over the next week or two and can post a couple of screenshots of what it will look like if anyone is interested. I am currently looking for someone to do the machining once I have it all sorted, but no luck so far. If it works out well and the costs aren't too bad I may make some for sale if there is any interest.

I am also working on a copy of the McMillan A5 stock scaled to fit my previous Mk.II project rifle, I will be starting on that in the next week or so since I don't have to wait for materials or machine work. I will try to take pics of that and post a thread when it is done and installed.
