Looking for more velocity from my 6.5X55

Thanks again folks - I have to get back out on the range and see if I can qualify accuracy of my chrony I guess. I put a new battery in and cleaned the sensors just in case. I like the sound of 3K CFBMI :)

I agree with most there must be something wrong...I got my Remington 700 custom with a shilen heavy barrel chronoed, 120 gr Nos B.tips, 48.5 gr IMR4350 it was 3007.4 ft per second. Yours should have me beat. If all math is right

Had a chance to fire a few loads over chrony today. It seems that it is telling the truth. Shot a few know .308win loads and results were similar to what they have always been. I'm still perplexed but such is life. I'm going to give some H4350 a try next and see what can be had. I at least have one good load to fall back on.

Huh Deerfarmer interesting stuff. Let us know how she goes? Play with the COAL , what I mean is same powder charge and diff COAL. See if velocity changes alot. Suggest 3.05 and 3.14 Maybe you just have a really tight barrel.

I made up some loads today as suggested with a 3.05 COAL using same charge and speed dropped off about 50fps.

48gr of H4350 today got me into 2870fps which was the good. Bad was groups were mediocre at around 1.47" Had one flyer of the 5 and without it in the measurement it was .9". Shot some more of my RL19 loads (50gr) and they seem to have gained some velocity since last run over the chrony. 2690 before on average and today with similar temps I was running 2720fps. Not a lot but some is better than none!

That's a pretty stout load already. Determine the longest OAL your gun can accommodate, and work at OAL's close to that as stated, and use more of a slower powder.

I can get 2950 Fps with 140 gr AMAX's at an OAL of 3.200", with full cases of IMR7828 (51.0 grs) and Re25 (54.0 grs), so getting the same with a 129 gr should be easily doable.
Andy, I wanted to try some 6.5X55 loads with RL25 but can't find any data. Is there reloading data for RL25 in 6.5X55 somewhere?

I use RL 22 in my 6.5's, and seat my bullets as far out as the rifle allows, typically quite a bit farther than factory ammo.

My experience is similar to Ganderites, 140's around 2900+ fps from a longer barrel, easy peasy.

There might not be any published data for Re25 with 140 and lighter bullets because it's too slow to get max MV's unless you can maximize case capacity by employing a long OAL like I can (3.200"). The same can be said for just about all powders slower than Re22.

Ya, I have a new T3 and basically looked at the charts and tried 50gr of RL25 with good results. It was right beside MRP and Magnum and they were listed as 50 max. I am using 140 VLDs with 50gr of RL25. It duplicates the HSM stuff I tried for hunting season. It's 2" high at 100m, bang on at 200m and the first dot down on my scope is the 300m zero.

Have you been able to chrony these loads? Is your T3 the HB varmint model or lite?

just thinking out loud here but if you have a short barrel and a slow powder you will have less velocity because the powder isn't getting burned up. I would think a faster powder in the shorter barrels will give you more velocity.
and if your barrel is tight you will have slower velocities but also higher pressures. look out for pressure signs on your brass.

also. if you have some reloader 17, give that a try.

Had some range time today with the same loads I chrony'd during winter. 129gr IB w/ 50gr of RL19 and CCI 200 primer - I was getting 2720 fps @ -6C ... today at +8 they were at 2815fps.

I also chrony'd loads I had made with H4350, 95gr VMAX w/ 47gr of H4350 were running 2820fps @ -8 ... today at +8 2850fps.

Probably old news, just thought I'd share for discussion sake,
