I'm planning to whack off the FH of my M305 shortie. How do I remove the hand guard? I remember a post in the past on prying open the clips that hold it against the barrel by using a wire but I can't find it now. Thanks.

you could just pry it off yes, I have done it a few times with a screw driver and nothing bad came from it, or you could just loosen up the gas system and it will slide right out!

i have a usgi slotted fibre handguard so i have to be careful because it is more fragile than the norc guard.. there is a hole on the bottom of the clip on each side of the guard, find something (i.e.: drift, punch, etc) that will fit into the hole and pry one side off at a time....

Umm... disassemble the gas cylinder assembly, slide it forward off the splines, then tug the handguard complete with clip forward off the barrel?

Or did I miss something in the question

Valleyman, as I described above, and your slotted hg is in no danger.

Yup feel free to slide the gas cylinder assembly.

There is a reason that I am yer teacher in all this journey and adventure. 20 years ago I was trying to remove a rear handguard off a collectible M1 Garand and I too used a shortened drift punch on the little holes under the handguard clip.

You guessed it, I FACKed up the walnut and scratched an ugly line on that fine walnut and now I just slide everything forward.

It's not that I know more than you guys, no siree, it's because I've fzcked up things more often than all of you combined. Ha ha ha ha

My old NRA High power coach always said to keep many spare parts so when ya fxck things up, you will still be Good to go.

Best advice he gave me. And now you are edumakated. Yuk yuk yuk

Cheers, Barney
