Versamax vs M2 for 3-gun

I just said that "I" wouldn't base my choice of SG on whether or not it can be ghost loaded.. Others are free to do whatever they wish.
I only submit that two cents because it seems whenever there's talk of 3gun shotguns the topic of ghost loading pops up and many guys come across as if being able to ghost load is somehow an advantage. It's not.
Like pauls said... over all It's fast reloads that will win the day.

For an eight round stage up here in Canada ghost loading is an advantage if you don't have a 3.5" shotgun. Many of the 3-gun nation classifiers are very "ghost load" friendly. :D

There is a definite difference as well between 3gun and IPSC Shotgun. In 3gun starting with the shotgun isn't quite as common as starting with the rifle, as typically the stage designer has you start at the rear of the range with the rifle taking the longer shots, and then moving forward and transitioning to the other guns. Hence, ghost loading won't be as common. Not that that sort of stage setup is written in stone but that is generally the way it ends up going a lot of the time.

In a pure shotgun match, or say a 2gun shotgun/pistol match, ghost loading becomes more of a factor.

At IPSC Ontario 2013 shotgun provincials, pretty much everyone that could was ghost loading every stage that wasn't an unloaded start.

Well I am putting on a sanctioned IPSC shotgun match on the 16th. Everyone who isn't shooting standard manual feel free to not ghost load for stage one which is an 8 round speed shoot. :D

Never seen a benefit to ghost load in the states unless you are Open. Ghost every time I can in Canada.

Don't see how you can quad with a Ghost start?!!

Yeah I screwed that up....it wasn't a ghost load, it was just on the lifter with an empty chamber and 8 in the tube

As I recall, what happened was I immediately racked the round into the chamber and then did a quad load, but that isn't the same as ghost loading

I bought the Versamax because it was in stock :)
lightened the mag tube spring
milled out the loading port
milled out the notch behind the shell finger so it releases easier when reloading
600 bucks later its ready to go, easy to load doubles ( I am not quad capable) and works flawlessly.
It will also work great as a trap gun!

Here's my 26" versamax with nordic components ext mag tube, tactical bolt handle, clamp etc. I got a crums lifter but haven't installed it yet. Haven't shot the benelli so I can't compare but this one's got around 1000 through it without a hiccup and I couldn't be happier with the way it's worked so far.

Nice VM's for sure. I'd get one if I hadn't already made up my mind.

My vote goes M2 for reason I stated in the thread in black and green shotguns :)

The M2s are nice for sure! I have also been looking at the Browning A5 Stalker that Greg Jordan used recently to win the 3 Gun Nation Championship. It is very interesting as it automatically loads a shell into the chamber when loading the tube. No need to count to prevent running dry.
