I shoot a Sp01 shadow in IPSC production division - not very well but am enjoying it :)

My question is can I change the ambi safety to a flatter cz model safety from a different cz75 model pistol and still stay legal for production division?

Many thanks in advance

Marc

Some of the typical mods include the flatter safety. It has to be a CZ part and I think it has to be for the SP01 (no aftermarket or custom shop parts). That is a factory part exists for the SP01 so no need to use something from another model. Other usual suspects are the lighter main spring (maybe the most valuable "upgrade"), competition hammer and lighter recoil spring. The grips that come with it are massive so for smaller hands, the aluminum grips is great. That one made the difference for me between shooting a shadow and not shooting one.

it doesnt have to be for the SP01, it can be for any CZ pistol legal in production

Yes flush safeties are legal parts, look at the picture on IPSC Global Village in the CZ thread

I recommend the regular CZ 75 safety. Flatter than that safety they put on the Shadow and a regular part for CZ's.

Honestly the flat safety is something I've always sort of meant to do but never have. I have never accidently engaged it during a course of fire. You start hammer down so really you just never touch the thing.

I think that works better for guys with big hands. I've tried that and even with a 1911 it just doesn't work for me.

half the problem with the stock non flush safeties is you hit them with your weak hand when you have a proper high grip. This a) feels annoying, b) means you can hit them on by accident.

1911 safeties are alot higher on the gun than a shadow (or tanfoglio for that matter) so its not as much of an issue. they also have a shape that helps mitigate the problem as well
