So looking at the pics, could one "switch out" the hand guards for a railed version or a Magpul set? and can the rest of the typical AR controls be changed out as well? mag release, & safety selector, charging handle etc? Thanks

That's a pretty good price. How is the quality so far with 5.56 WW rifles? And is the price comparable to Ruger's 7.62?

I think that WW quality is quite good? , however I don't own one. They say the pricing will be right around the $1200 mark? MSRP is $1400. I think that's puts it lower than the Ruger. The Ruger is $1900 @ IRG.

Windham = Bushmaster factory & employees before the name was sold to Freedom Group.

It's basically an AR10 that takes PMags.

Spoke to them at Shot, very nice people.

Isn't Windham made up of "ex pats" from Bushmaster, and I guess they didn't bring along all the "baggage" from BM in the way of quality issues?

Freedom Group bought Bushmaster along with Remington, AAC, etc and since Remington already produces ARs the BM factory is redundant. Freedom Group only kept half dozen of BM employees so they started a new brand on their own.

No comment on quality (I don't own any WW/BM ARs) but they have lifetime warranty that carries over to any owner not just the original owner so that has to say something.

Yea that makes sense I recall that it wasn't just a "re branding" of BM, they went and started there own company. The video tour is impressive, IIRC they 100% air gauge all there barrels.

The one thing that would be really nice about seeing more of these out there would be listening to those idiots that obsess over not calling guns "weapons" contort their language and/or beliefs to try to either call it "Wyndham Firearmery" or desperately attempt to justify why their gun said "weapon" right on it.

Great price point for a 308 AR! Very appealing. I have a WW in 5.56 and am very happy with it. I would not have any reservations getting another piece in 308 from them.

I have the flat top 5.56 and I am very impressed with the quality, I really wouldn't require more in a black rifle. I'd recommend one to ayone.

A couple things here. You can swap out parts. But you would want to know if it's AR10 based, DPMS etc. One of the issues is the lack of standardization. You may run into some annoying issues. For example with most AR308 rifles a wedge is needed for MIAD grips due to the different shape of the lower and gap. $5 part but if you don't know... The mag release on most isn't the same size as AR15. So no swapping in a Norgon. The trigger however is easily swapped with AR15 in every model I've seen.

Once you get rid of the ugly gas block, the front handguard, the pistol grip, the crappy stock etc , trigger etc the price gets up there fairly quick. It's usually cheaper to just get one already configured how you want. Although this does present an interesting base for building off.

16" barrel. This presents it's own issues with 308. Reliability being the primary concern. KAC and LMT are the only 16" AR10 rifles I'd consider at this time. Most overgassing them. Even then KAC and LMT have gone with duel extractors on new enhanced or gen2 bolts. You don't see this as an issue with 20" or longer on the 308.

The barrel is a 16" 1:10 twist CL deal. Is this what you want? I prefer stainless match myself. But I don't use mine as lead hoses. The cost of 308 should be considered.

7075 is decent. Although the Armalite AR10 is 7175.

I would argue that the new g2 dpms' are a better buy.
They offer significant improvements over the traditional ar10 platform.
I love my lmt mws, but it's heavy. You have to be a bit masochistic to use it like a carbine...
The g2 dpms puts that 308 goodness in a package that's balanced like an ar15.

Ordered a g2 recon myself.

Looks promising. Covers off many of the negatives with non top brand 16" 308AR rifles. If going for a 16" carbine I'd definately consider one.

I like the DPMS Recon AR15 as well. Was tempted to buy one. They are Producing some neat stuff lately.

My local gun shop has one in 5.56. Seems pretty nice for the price.
Can't beat the lifetime warranty.

Here's a response from the "horses mouth" with respect to a few questions I had;

I have some answers for you but not all. We haven't had a chance to try too many of the aftermarket accessories on our .308s yet.
I can say that the mid length gas system will accept any two piece handguard made for a midlength AR15. The fire control parts are all standard AR15 parts therefore interchangeable with any available fire control parts on the market. The charging handle is bigger but a standard AR15 latch is used.
I believe any low profile gas block with a diameter of .750" will work. I just gave one to the guys that are testing the .308s to install just to make sure.

Sorry I am still a little low on answers for .308 upgrades. We will have more clear information on upgrades in time.
