***UPDATE ON POST #38***

Well,

I just took my new Kel Tec PMR 30 out to the range today for the first time and had a major issue.

I had the whole top of the chamber blow right out of the pistol. I literally shot 6 rounds, all which fired off with no problems then on the seventh round, BOOM!!!!

Felt something strike my face and looked down at the pistol to see what happened and:

Now i dont think there was a bullet stuck in the barrel before i shot the last round off as i didnt notice anything unusual and did see holes in the target but then again what else could make this happen????

Not properly treated barrel, or just to much pressure in the load itself or???????
Any suggestions guys??

I took the barrel off the slide and didnt see any bulging or indication of a bullet striking another bullet but the chamber did blow off.

This is what I was shooting:

More pics of it at home:

Measured to see if there was 1 or more projectiles stuck in there, Only one is present.

I am just glad I was wearing my safety glasses and was not hurt. I dont care about the pistol as it will either be warranted or whatever they want to do. I just hope Vault is good to deal with.

Dang!

Glad to read that you're alright, which is all the really matters.

Re cause - you mentioned that you don't think it was a squib, but it was the first thing that came to mind. The case looks like it split perfectly length wise.

Again, glad you're ok!

By the pics, I would lean toward metalurgic flaw.

Glad you weren't hurt!

First off thanks guys. It didnt real set in what happened till i was driving home. Stuill makes me shake my head.

To bollox, the way it is split on the chamber makes me think the exact same thing but who knows what Vault or kel tec will say.

Oh, i did email vault with a buttload of pics and kel tec aswell so im thinking monday i should hear something and post back what they say.

I'm shocked that a Kel-Tec product might self destruct like that, shocked. I mean the barrel only looks like pot metal in those pics, so who would have expected that...

Since the barrel is screwed then try to hammer out the bullet and see how many there are. But I could see the bullet not making it all the way out if the chamber split like it did.

Glad no injuries.

Looks like a flaw. The crack was there before the shot. Do you have all the prior casings? You may see GSR lines along the flaw on the previous shot casings.

That's brutal! Good to hear you're okay though. How many holes were in the target after you shot? Maybe the sixth round never made it out of the barrel? Were you shooting really fast or taking your time with the rounds?

Interested to hear what Vault and Kel Tec have to say about their warranty, especially as I just bought a KSG...

Keep us posted please.

I heard that they had changed the barrels on these "some sort of problem" here is a link that might shed some light mabey.

That was just the change from the fluted barrel to the new style which i have/had

I dont have the other cases. Didnt even think of it. Grabbed the split one and put it back in the box.

I want to hammer out the bullet and see but i just dont want Vault saying "well now we cant warranty it cuz you took the bullet out or some BS"
I have never had this happen so dont know what to do.

Was just about to post the same thing Slavex. I zoomed into the first picture, and man.... that DOES look like cheap cast pot metal. A steel barrel would show more "ripping" of the metal I think.

I hope we're wrong.... who the heck makes barrels (even .22) out of pot metal!?

I was thinking the same, the metal has a more crystalline look to it then it should.

Damn! That's a s**t way to end a range session.

Thankfully you are OK, this kind of thing is why I were safety glasses over my prescription glasses even with their plastic lenses.

Looking forward to the companies response, it's going to be very telling.

Stay safe B

Were it me bfiles, I'd leave it where it is. But before sending it off for warrantee, won't hurt to measure the length of the obstruction as vs. the length of a single bullet. CYA, if they try to say there were two in there, and there isn't.

I want to hammer out the bullet and see dont know what to do.

Glad your OK. Just used one of your nine lives, so ya did!.
