One of my closest hunting buddies had an LEH Elk draw in the Peace River Country.

He invited me to join him in the hunt, and of course, I was delighted to join him.

We left early AM, got settled, posted in the evening, and with 10 minutes of legal
shooting light left on the first day, 8 Elk showed up, 275 yards away.

One shot later, beautiful cow on the ground!! :) DRT.

Very nice, fat animal. I can already taste the steaks!! Pics to follow later.

Dave.

Congrats! I always figure the worst hunts are the ones that end so soon! Haha! It IS a good feeling to know the freezer is full tho

nice, I love photos

Buddies camera is 35mm Film type, so will post as quickly as I get them and scan them up.

Hung weight of this cow, no entrails, no hide, no head, no legs below the knees was just 300 lb.
So not a really big animal, but should be superb eating.

Meat looks very nice, indeed, with little loss to bloodshot areas.

Regards, Dave.

308 Norma Mag, 180 Partition @ 3125 fps MV.

At impact, that Partition would still have been at about 2600 fps.
Obviously, no recovered bullet. Exit was ¾" diameter.

She never took a step after the shot.

Muskyhunter1; The shot would have been a challenge with the 38-55.....
pretty curved trajectory for that 255 grain FP slug at 275 yards, lol.

Regards, Dave.

Congratulations on a good hunt! There are some elk where I moose hunt, but I have only heard them bugling, never seen one yet.

Congrats. For me, the elk would be somewhere different or come out too late past legal light or back into the timber before legal light....so in other words I didn't get my cow elk in the PR area. Should of taken a cow earlier when I had my 2 young boys with me, but we were concentrating more on the whitetail bucks. My tag was good from Nov.1 to Dec.20

Oh well.

Just the other day there was about 40 elk out at 1pm....at +8...go figure.

I started hunting quite young, and am now well past my prime, lol.
I have had the privilege of living in or near prime hunting areas all my life.

I shot my first Elk as a teen [almost by accident, too]

Since then, many Elk have become table fare in our household. [Plus moose, caribou, deer, Blackies, a BH Sheep, etc, etc]

I prefer Elk over all the rest of the deer family, with moose in second place.
This young animal will be excellent, I am sure.

It will be ready in a week or so....yummy!!
