Guys I was out early this AM with 2 fellows joining me on the hunt, we each chose a gulley an went walk about.

After a while the sun was up an I seen a fallow hind coming off a ridge just up ahead, so I went across to cut her off an was able to put the bead on the neck of the critter from 30-40ms and send a 180gr factory corelokt to do what it was intended to do...

I ended up with a freezer filler an passed it on to one of the mates who was down from the North, on a 4 day express trip, who at 60 y.o has now taken 3 Sambar, but on this trip was lucky enough to shoot his first Stag on Saturday, but was unable to get prime venison until I bumped into this one at the last minute of the last hunt on the last day... aint that always the way.

Really happy to have Blooded the Number 1 British , hopefully bump into a few more bigger deer soon.

Turns out its the Australia Day Long Weekend, which means it would be unpatriotic to use anything else. :)

Most all of the "game" in Australia are introduced ferals. In most areas there is no limit, you can shoot them and leave them lay, the government has hunters that shoot them from choppers and they put out poison in some areas.

I believe Victoria and Tasmania are the only Aussie states that have regulated seasons on deer. All the other states consider deer species to be pests and you can fill your boots if the gov hasn't already killed off the local population with 1080 poison. It's a real **** in NZ because none of the native species eat it so they toss it around like candy.

The highest concentration of animals happen to be in the two states that enforce seasonal regs so at least there's a good chance of dropping a deer once the season rolls around.

Congrats on yet another successful outing. I don't know if you've already answered this, so please bear with me...what is the limit on those deer? You've got lots of great photos of many successful hunts, so I assume the limit is quite generous or non-existent?

The Fallow Deer in Victoria is pretty open to being able to Hunt year round without a Season or Bag limit... There are a few rules an regs though an the depending on species but most the deer bar Hog an Red may have a Season in Victoria.

That sounds like New Zealand? hopefully that isn't happening to much over in Aus, I now some trials have been done for Helicopter culling but Its not a monthly event AFAIK.

The Sambar deer is the big 'Game' animal down here an we're in a tight place atm with government wanting to put these critters on the pest list, which would allow Spotlighting and basically shoot on sight... but if all of this happens then I don't think we will be allowed to hunt these now "pest" in NP , unlike at the current day we can hunt into the Alpine NP in Victoria.

I can only speak in re to Victorian hunting regs, can only dabble with NSW which seems to be a bit more Regulated and QLD well a deers a flat out pest there.

Im lucky to live in Deer country an get to hunt quite alot definatley got a mad case of Deer bug for the past 2 years, not sure how long it will last but makin the most of it while the body is young.

HTH somewhat, if your serious about coming down an hunting PM an I can give you more detailed info an links etc.

Cheers
