Was thinking about picking up a light barrel for the xcr m and was wondering if any one has tried one and how much of an improvement in handling they found. Currently I find it front heavy. Also curious as to how much of a weight savings it is.

Cool, didn't know that.

Did some research:

I weighed a 16" light and 16" heavy with gas blocks and FH just a couple weeks ago and wrote down the numbers. heres what I got

16 lite = 1.92
16 heavy = 2.63

difference = .71 lbs or 11.36 oz

the difference is SUBSTANTIAL in how it feels. The lite barrel makes it a whole different gun.

That's a huge difference, even moreso on a longer barrel. By all accounts the rifle handles VERY differently with a light barrel.

It's accuracy isn't great to begin with but I figure unless your firing rapidly it should not make much of a difference. I saw for the light barrel on the xcr l it was a saving of about 0.8 pounds according to a thread about that I figure it will be something similar in this case.

I handled a new M heavy barrel at the store and was really not impressed with the weight distribution. Hope for good news when you get your light barrel.

I got a light barrel for the XCR M. Just waiting for it to arrive now. Hoping it makes it feel more balanced.

Please review. Im patiently waiting to place an order for a light barreled M with keymod.

Had an L with heavy barrel and it was too front heavy for my girly arms

I have light barrels in 6.8 and 223/556 and really like them for hunting. The light barrel makes a world of difference for handling but the light barrels are fussy about what you feed them . My hunting loads in 6.8 average around inch and light barrel had to work at it to get 1.5 to 2. My light barrel in 223 I just loaded up a middle charge of most available powder and bullet weight on hand and went blasting/coyote hunting. That load goes about 2 to 3" and works for what I want. Played around with a couple light bullets and few powders in 223 but never found anything I liked speed/accuracy wise. Might play with it some more this summer and try some heavier bullets in it , 55 to 65.

Oddly enough when I take my 6.8 big game hunting I usually use hvy barrel because I shoot better offhand with it, I find guns with weight forward shoot better for me. I don't mind carrying it even though I am an old fat bastard, plus it pisses off my liberal hunting buddy to no end!:cool:

Mine is MOA capable even with cheap norc ammo,nothing wrong with that in my books.

I like putting lots of rounds downrange with mine, so the light barrel wouldn't work for me, as nice as it would be to shave 3/4lb from the front.

The XCR-M light barrel is definitely lighter and does help the balancing of the gun. It is still front heavy and not as well balanced as an AR-10, even a piston model. With a sling and the light barrel, I do find it more comfortable. I think a keymod upper in addition would really help with the balancing. I haven't had a chance to take it out shooting yet to see how the barrel performs.
