.45 Colt loads for Uberti Schofield replica

Just got an Uberti Schofield 1875 #3 in 5 inch barrel. My first experience with 45LC. I have Titegroup and Unique on hand and .452" Berry heads in 200gr FP and 230gr RN. I know the typical head is 250gr lead in .454"

Any thoughts and experience using .452"
 
Just about to turn in for the night. I've got LASER CAST bullets reloading book plus LYMAN'S so I'll get some later Monday. Is this a 45 long colt load OR A LOAD FOR THE SHORT 45COLT BRASS.
 
.452 is what you need for .45 Colt. I don't think plated bullets will harm a modern barrel, but might on an 'antique'.

The list of 'good' powders for the cartridge is so long, it would be easier to list those that are not. You might want to void anything other than 'standard' loads.

I shoot 200 gr .45 ACP RNFP's and 230 RN in my .45 Colts. I save my hand cast 250 RNFP's for BP.
 
Interesting. My Lee manual says the 45 Long Colt is .454"

MOST CAST IS 452 TODAY ..Check out the BULLET BARN IN BC. All 452 in 45 no issues in my Ubertis revolvers or rifle. I have 3 rifles in 45LC 452 works in all 3 as well as revolvers. Barrels from 20 to 24 inch in rifles. WIN231 and Titegroup work well.
 
slug the barrel , like a real reloader . you'll likely find it to be .450 to .452 . .454 is the orig diam back when JC was a cowboy . just as a point of interest there is no such thing as
45 long colt , or 45 short colt .

Thanks Nada, you are right .45 Colt for long, .45 Schofield for short.

So I tried some reloads and some factory lead ammo. The factory ammo from Winchester and Hornady is crap for accuracy. Both my copper plated berry 200gr and 230gr were more accurate with titegroup and unique. Titegroup loads were very inconsistent becuz of how little powder was in the case. The 9 grains of unique ignited more consistently. Kick Felt lighter than factory loads but were more accurate (shooting at 10 yards).

All in all a very cool gun. Might experiment with other powders if I can find some more.
