Would it be possible to try again with the SCAR 17s

First off? Serioulsy, why the #### are you even posting to this thread then?

heard an interesting story from SHOT Show about the SCAR. according to FN the rifles that were submitted to the RCMP were not obtained from FN directly and were also semi auto ones that had been modified to FA by either the owner who submitted them or whoever he got them from. As such FN was of the opinion that the semi auto receiver is different enough from the FA receiver that it should already meet our laws.

That's very interesting.

Okay lets get this thread back on track.

Has a new SCAR been submitted? And if so, when was it submitted/when would we hear something ? 1-2 years ?

That wouldn't surprise me in the least - in Mr Smith's little corner of the universe the end always justifies the means.

The issue was that it could accept full auto carrier/trigger/parts.

From some research I found that the Handl lower can accept all original SCAR components, military and civilian.
And apparently, the upper is considered the firearm as it is serialized and not the lower.

I would love to own a SCAR, but I don't think this will fly.

also I found on another forum Handl building a whole new trigger group as well

but I guess all this is moot if the american semi auto is good to go.

So the whole reason they never made it through was pretty much because someone was stupid? Why am I not surprised?

That's great news if there is a chance we can get them through classification as restricted and non restricted depending on barrel length. More options on the market is a great thing for all of us. Maybe 2-3 years for the RCMP to inspect them and we should see them start to trickle in :D

lol, always laugh at that one

So did you get any sense that it might be or maybe already has been resubmitted? I assume this would be work like the T97.

WishI had 4k I could tie up for a couple years.

Expressing your opinion is fine, trolling a thread with stupid statements is something else. Where exactly did you contribute anything useful to this thread, did you even read the first post?

As for the SCAR being resubmitted, I have no idea if anyone is going to even try. My buddy at SHOT was quite surprised at the info he got from FN, it would be up to an importer to bring them in and try again. Would be nice if someone tried.

Yes, I read the first post. From my understanding, even if the SCAR came off the prohibited list...it will still be considered as restricted because of its barrel length unless they make a longer barrel like 18.6". I fail to see how is that a troll and stupid statement?
Anyways, I think it has gone off topic enough, back to the topic.

Just like the ACR platform. Amazing how there are aftermarket non restricted barrels, and non restricted versions now.

The SCAR could be no different, if it were factory restricted.

Maybe FN would make a "Canadian barrel", or at least Herron Arms would be busy. ;)

I wish I had a SCAR!

Questar was supplying FS2K's with non-restricted barrels (from High Desert Dog) a few years back, and I was just on HDD's website and they are still making longer barrels (up to 20 inches) for the 17s. The problem is by the time you purchase the rifle, have the barrel installed by a gunsmith (or purchase it pre-installed), add in the shipping & GST, the cost is going to balloon to (around) $5000 -- or more. So, the question comes down to would you pay $5000 (or more) for a Scar 17s when they are going for 1/2 that in the US?

Now, if FN would supply a Canadian-based NR SCAR, that would be a different story.. but I highly doubt that is ever going to happen.

I don't recall hearing about the ability to debate their findings... I figure once hooped always hooped :/ the only way out I believe is patent infringement and slapping a new name on it with a lot of marketing saying no no no its something else, these are apples not oranges.

^ Agreed, but we're dreaming here! They would have sold a lot more FS2000's if they'd have catered to our market.

Problem is that the Canadian market is not really worth catering to. We don't buy enough to make it worth it, especially when so many say they won't buy one because we have to pay more than they do in the US, not realizing that making a special run which meet our silly Canadian non restricted criteria costs more since they need to retool the machines and then someone needs to go through the pain in the ass of importing them which isn't as cheap or as easy as it used to be.
We need to stop comparing our prices to the US prices. Hasn't anyone noticed that everything is cheaper down South? Granted buying a Rem 700 doesn't have quite the increase as any black rifle but keep in mind that there are a lot more Rem 700's going off the shelves here than black rifles. If all these people that are afraid to buy anything restricted would grow a pair and exercise their rights while they still have them maybe the people making the laws would realize these scary rifles aren't so bad after all and they would loosen the restrictions on them trying to get more votes from us.

Bracketman, I don't think it would be any different than the ACR is now. I own one with 2 non restricted barrels and I have under $3000 into it. There will always be guys that will buy them new as restricted then when the supply and the demand equalize the used prices will come down, they will sell them and since you are going to put a new barrel on anyway it doesn't matter how many rounds are down it. Buy it used and instead of paying Herron $1000 for a $500 barrel and his time look into some other options. Now Dlask is offering ACR barrels for $500 and they will swap the gas system over and take care of reclassifying it for you. Swapping the gas system takes about 15min and I had mine reclassified myself, just find a verifier in your area and take it to him and fill out a few boxes on a piece of paper then wait.
If you wait a while more options always pop up and things get cheaper.
