Biathlon rifle?

I'm skiing on a 15 year old pair of Rossignols (classic style) but I'm heading to the REI store in Michigan tomorrow to look into some different varieties. We've had more snow here already this year than we've had all of last year. Snow can be fleeting here some years Before I go all out, I've got to see how my knee holds up (so far so good).

Yeh I'm unsure which way to go. I have never x skied before. Used to ski downhill before switching to snowboarding.
So for recreation classic style would be more usable and great for all the trails around here. But it seems to really try biathlon you need to skate ski.

All biathlon is skate technique.

Watch videos of people moving the action of a Izhmash then one of a Anschutz. That should show you how much difference there is.

As far as the T-bolt, I owned one and it is not even in the same league as the Anschutz (not even close). If you have the funds get the 1827F. It is the best by far. Worth every penny for the Fortner action! Cycling the action barely moves your sight picture. T-bolt takes you right off target (great light, fast action 22lr but not in the 1827F league)

Get one! Its worth it :D (New 1827F owner here)

On the Izhmash, the plunger that locks the bolt toggle over center to lock the bolt comes oversize from the factory. It is intended to be fitted to suit the owner. Properly fitted, there is little difference in easy of bolt action or speed between the Izhmash or Annie. Is the Fortner better? Yes. But unless a person is at least mid-level competitive your money is better spent on an Izhmash and great skis.

Also, the Izmash bolt is way simpler than the Annie. Its just about foolproof.

Yep, but I know at the beginner level you can get away with classic style. And there are much more places to classic ski on all the groomed trails around here. My concern is I don't want to commit to skate style and then not be able to use them recreationally as much. In reality I'll at best learn the skiing this winter before maybe giving biathlon a try next winter.
I guess like everything you need more than one set of equipment.

Provided you can find Izhmash in Canada. Supply of new ones dried up as Izhmash filed for bankruptcy and I believe at this moment is undergoing a corporate reorganization together with Kalashnikov. THey haven't manufactured any new refiles in a while and I suppose if they restarted, the military gets priority before servicing the civilian market. IF they do manufacture a batch of new 7-4s, I bet Larssen Biathlon gets the first dibs on them as they are the biggest distributor if Izhmash biathlon in Europe. Interammo might have an update as they are the distributor of Izhmash in Canada. 7-4s are cool rifles but the factory stocks are bulky and heavy, perhaps good for prone shooting but a bit cumbersome in standing position. I think their barrles are chomed, but they are attached to receiver using some pins and an adhesive. I had one, but once I got 1827 Fortner, I lost interest in Izhmash and is on the way to a young athlete who actually does biathlon and is not looking to spend a wad of cash on a Fortner but will still end up with a high quality and durable rifle which will be used for its intended purpose.

Pick up a set of roller skis and practice your skate skiing this summer!

Fun video of the Swedish National Team summer training here on the Range in Ruhpolding...

Yeh lots of people do that here on the bike trail between Canmore and banff. It's a great route.

Hope there will be good coverage at SOCHI if the networks don't screw it up..

I just got some rabbit ears and got tv for first time in years to watch it. Glad CBC is a free channel.

I would not expect CBC to air biathlon competitions in Sochi. You tube will be a good source to watch biathlon probably with 1 day delay. There is tons of full length video events from 2013 and 2014 biathlon world cup on you tube, many of them in Russian (being an eastern European I can understand 50 to 60% of it), many of them in HD.

That would probably explain why the price are getting a little silly. A few of us both some sort of variant of the BI-7-2KO from Armrus, the gun came with the biathlon peep-sights, and a regular <hunting> stock... The're fun rifle... and also were about 1/4 of the $ of the new current offering.

Is there much of a market for a Finnish biathlon rifle with the 4 mags? Old friend of mine is selling one he has, not my thing but is like to help him with an idea of whether it is sellable reasonably or not .

I am sure when it's exposed to the market , it'll attract someone's attention. If it's a FinnBiathlon, they are good rifles ! As for value , there are so few that the parties would have to agree on a price - depends on the motivation to sell and the willingness to buy !
