Non-magnifying optics?

I'm looking for optics that are 1x (1.5x is acceptable too) to mount on the dust cover rail of a vz-58.
Essentially, I want something that offers the benefits of a red dot, without being exclusively dependant on batteries.
The two scopes I'm finding that fit are the Soviet PKA-S (hard to find) and the Leupold Prismatic Tactical (can't seem to locate any in Canada).
Done some Googling, and I'm finding not much else that fits the bill since most 1x optics are 1-4 and are longer or have longer eye relief that I want.
I could go with something like a Burris AR-###, but that is more of a last option.
So, any suggestions or compromises?

Quick edit: up to 3-4 magnification could be acceptable, but the scope would need to be either short, or have really short eye relief

Any reason why you want SHORT eye relief? Maybe I don't understand.

Compact ACOG? They have 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 3.5x, etc.

vz-58 dust cover mount is mounted on the dust cover (obviously), and I can't get myself behind a magnified optic without crunching into a weird shape.
I had a POSP mounted (which I loved) but couldn't fit behind with the regular wood stock.
May consider an ACOG, but not too big on the reticle design and I'm a College student lol...

Don't let batteries be that much of deterrent... my Aimpoint H1 Micro ran for FIVE YEARS straight without being turned off once.
I am considering a Burris Fastfire since they are small and low, along with other holographic optics.
Would be nice to not have to worry about batteries however (which warrants a tritium/fiber optic dot optic), and I like fixed reticles versus red dots.
I will give some more thought to the Aimpoint though.

I would agree with canucklehead on the Aimpoints. I've had a PRO for a couple years now and still haven't changed the battery. I just got a Micro H1 as well and it's awesome. Super small and lightweight and tough as hell, would be perfect for your vz-58. The added benefit is you are in full control of the illumination, tritium/fibre optic sights can wash out in a number of given scenarios, not to mention tritium will also die out.

Ironically, I have a related but seems like the opposite problem. I'm looking for a 1-4x scout scope, and I need about a foot of eye relief. Thus far, every scout scope I've seen has a minimum magnification higher than I want, and every 1-4x scope has a short eye relief.

A 1-4x pistol scope *MIGHT* work if the eye relief isn't too long...

Is there anything on the market you guys know of that would fit the bill?
