Just bought my first revolver! Very excited but I hear that it can take a long time for the transfer of a restricted firearm to be completed! Wondering if a few people would weigh in on how long it normally takes.

My first took a day. The only hold up was the CFO wanted a copy of a range membership. After they got that.... boom...... done.

Sask to AB.

Had the gun in a week and a half.

Here in B.C. now if you buy a restricted from a dealer they get the reference number right away over the internet and I usually phone in a couple of days later to complete the transfer and pick up the gun within the week. If I buy a restricted gun from an individual it takes maybe two weeks max. things have improved here in B.C. The time seems to vary from province to province.
The first one always seems to take forever.

Are we talking a store purchase or private transfer?

Last pistol I bought, dealer called CFO while I was there... Handed me the phone....did my bit and left, he reconed a week. By the time I got home he'd called to say "all done" come and collect.....go figure, it was three days before Christmas..

New record for me. Bought a revolver at Goble's last week, transfer complete, ATT issued in under 3 hours. The way it should be!!! No reason a computer can't spit this stuff out automatically.

BC seems to be improving. Only took a couple days for a person to person transfer the other week.

Last purchase at Cabelas, few weeks ago. Paperwork and phone calls done , took the gun home within 2 1/2 hrs. Most time spent on hold in the que for the STATT, once they answered it took a few minutes. Last private transfer was same day.

Bought a restricted from a dealer in NS very recently, took about 4 business days to complete transfer. And got my papers in the mail today :) Range trip tomorrow!
