Would it be possible to try again with the SCAR 17s

Problem is that the Canadian market is not really worth catering to. We don't buy enough to make it worth it, especially when so many say they won't buy one because we have to pay more than they do in the US, not realizing that making a special run which meet our silly Canadian non restricted criteria costs more since they need to retool the machines and then someone needs to go through the pain in the ass of importing them which isn't as cheap or as easy as it used to be.

Yup, I'm not saying it would be easy, but IWI did it for us. How many Tavors are now out there? I think FN missed the boat. A small boat, but a boat nonetheless.

If they are avaliable at $4000 non restricted
I will buy 16 and 17 one of each. Right now !!!

Questar was supplying FS2K's with non-restricted barrels (from High Desert Dog) a few years back, and I was just on HDD's website and they are still making longer barrels (up to 20 inches) for the 17s. The problem is by the time you purchase the rifle, have the barrel installed by a gunsmith (or purchase it pre-installed), add in the shipping & GST, the cost is going to balloon to (around) $5000 -- or more. So, the question comes down to would you pay $5000 (or more) for a Scar 17s when they are going for 1/2 that in the US?

Now, if FN would supply a Canadian-based NR SCAR, that would be a different story.. but I highly doubt that is ever going to happen.

Well since us military dropped the 16S
and DOS change their rules all the time. I don't think it's impossible

So the next question is who did what to the sample SCAR and why?
If what FN was saying at shot was true.
If Questar submitted a sample why would they send in a version that somebody had messed with?
And there was the need for FN to be involved, why?
I remeber some movie prop guy showed up in one of threads here made a few comments about him submitting a sample.
but I don't remeber exactly what that was all about either?
maybe some one could chime in who knows more as to what went on in the first attempt to get a FRT.
And if the first attempt was a 16s
would it not make sense to for a importer to try a 17s?
I don't know exactly how the FRT works but the SCAR situation always struck me as odd.

from what I was told, the guns were submitted by a movie gun guy and were not obtained from FN.

so why would questar not even submit a sample? beyond strange..
and the prop guy seemed to show up a year or after the questar pre-order list.

My 2cents, i think questar did submit the " official" FN version, they sat on it for 3 years. Movie guy shows up with the "messed with" version which MAYBE was full auto before, and that finally let RCMP to put the nail in the coffin.

Sounds right to me sky52 - but Murray Smith "doesn't do interviews" - although he cashes a taxpayer provided paycheque, he has no real need to be responsible for his actions, so we'll never know

People who avoid restricted firearms because of the hassle are doing exactly what lawmakers intended them to when the ridiculous legislation around restricted firearms was drafted up. It's a lot easier to ban something that 1000 people own than 10,000.

On topic, I would be all over a SCAR 17. I'd have to sell most of my organs on account of all the other firearms I buy, but the SCAR 17 is right at the top of the "need" list. Petition anyone?

Very true, that is why when ever possible I take non-shooters to the range (most are keen to shoot a handgun for their first time) and turn them into PAL and RPAL owners asap. You'd be surprised how well this can work and at the very worst you have a good day at the range and have given some non-shooters some real evidence that firearms are indeed safe and can be fun as well.

Now back on topic, sorry OP.
