'Dominion Arms' 'M-14?

I'm considering a 22" M-14 from "Dominion Arms". Is this some subsidiary of NORINCO or is it a seperate firm?
Does the build quality differ between the two?
I already have a shorty NORINCO, but I'm wondering what 'the line' is on Dominion Arms? Are they any good,
or do they vary as much as the Norcs?
Anything in particular that I ought to check (other than the usual checks for barrel indexing, etc)?

Dominion Arms is an inhouse brand sold by Canada Ammo.
They are Norinco/Polytech rifles (made by same factory), although the reports here are that the build quality and colour/finish seem better then previous Norinco M305's
 
I find they have pretty much the same minor issues as previous years, with a new wrinkle of magazine catches that sometimes need slimming and bit of beveling to release properly. Some people have had problems with their bolt catches, but it is fine on my DA Socom. The rear sights seem to be, on average, much better and now often do not need replacement. The headspace on mine is similar to recent years at 1.638, and the bolt lugs bear evenly - so no major problems here, but as usual, this is an area to inspect.

I too think the Parkerizing and finish is a bit better than my older Norcs. So, as before, these are still a steal at the price if you are willing to tinker with them.

Looks very good so far. I field stripped it
in the store and didn't notice anything amiss, other than the front
sight being slightly off to the right (in the dovetail, not canted).
The trigger feels fine (I haven't measured the pull yet); the safety moves
a lot easier than the one on my shorty. It came sealed in a plastic bag of motor oil.
I'll clean it up & take it out for a shoot next week before I do any hotrodding to it.
I'd attach a pic, but right now it's not much to look at--just a plain oily black rifle.

SOCOM what?

I'm only sure of what's stamped on the receiver (see post #4).

And "SOCOM" would be an acronym signifying what?
Wiki seems to think it stands for "Special Operations Command".

Well, I'd begin by checking it for deficiencies and measuring to see if it's to spec. Then I'd take it out to the range and find out how it performs.
I wouldn't be fooled by whatever the manufacturer wrote on the side of its receiver, regardless of who made it.
I don't expect the Yanks have a monopoly on "quality" anymore.
 
Wikipedia isn't a reliable source if info about anything. And SA Inc. invented the M1A carbine as a marketing thing. The Chinese may have stamped SOCOM 18 on 'em before it dawned on 'em an 18" barrel has a very limited market in Canada.

That is correct...

I wish they would make a "Canadian Special Operations Forces Command" version so they could stamp "CANSOFCOM" on the barrel. Ya, just sound that one out, LOL...

Oh, ja! That's the first thing I'll do after I've fired a few rounds to sight it in and get a baseline of its 'from the factory' ability. Then I'll begin the tweaking.
btw-- I'll try getting over the pass to your side of the island next week; maybe see you there.
