Best .22 pistol, your thoughts?

Beretta 71 is an awesome pistol. Never had a jam and the only problems are rounds with no priming...

Truth. This is a great pistol. Although those with very large hands may not like it.

Ruger Single Ten is also quite a fine firearm.

Lots of votes for Rugers. I think the bull barrel makes the difference between a very good pistol and a great one. Balanced and easy to point. great sights, even on older models. I don't care for the standard models I've shot, but that's because I obviously haven't practiced with one, because I don't own one.. If I did, I'd probably like it just as much.

S&W 17, hands down my most reliable and accurate 22LR. The new 617's aren't bad but I have found them to be kinda crummy with cheaper 22 rounds whereas the only issue the old 17 has is wax build up from cheaper rounds causes binding. After I extract I just blow the wax out and I haven't had an issue with binding since.

I have a Ruger Single Six and it is awesome for plinking and I love having the 22mag cylinder. I also have the Beretta model 71 and I love that little gun. It is very small, but has nice sleek styling and all the girls think it's ###y and want to touch it! It's also very accurate and well built. 6' or 4.2 " barrels can be had for it easily.

One thing to beware of is that some otherwise reputable manufacturers have licensed out the manufacture of cheap, pot-metal knockoffs of their full-size handguns. These look good but will self-destruct without warning. Walther springs to mind but there are others. Despite all the praise GSG gets, I believe they, too, are suspect.

Now I think I better hunker down in a trench ... incoming fire expected.

S&W 617 revolver
accurate, nice trigger, can use .22LR .22L and .22S in it so there are lots of ammo options, with shorts in it, I have a CO2 BB gun that has more recoil

This thread is missing something...

Ok, this is my MKIII, and it gets my vote, but I have since saw something that might be more accurate.

The RIA XT22 and XT22/45 Combo. Reviews say extremely accurate. I am thinking about it.

Haha neat thread.

So last year i wanted my first 22 pistol. I found a mint ruger mk 2 on EE and got it for 300.00

I had the option for a new mark 3, but based on what i learned on CGN, i sought out a mk2.

I could not be happier. My pistol is a legend. The legend in fact.

It's true, it's the Ruger mark two.

This pistol will never be sold(why?) and will stay in my family forever. Its heirloom quality.

What! No pic?

So I've decided that I'm gonna go for a revolver. I've narrowed it to...
S&W (17, 617 or K22)
Ruger (sp101, single 10,etc)
Taurus 992 .22lr/.22wmr
Any more thoughts?

Your list is in the proper order of priorities for a .22 revolver, IMO. S&W first, with Ruger and Taurus, a distant second and third.

You could also check out the Alpha .22 revolvers that Rusty Wood is selling. I just ordered a 9mm and may order one in .22 later on. One things for sure though, what ever you buy won`t be your last .22 handgun - those things are addictive!

Ruger Mk III - got into resticteds last spring and it was my first pistol - after about 1200 rounds I decided I would do the teardown and clean more as a challenge to myself than a need - it was really not that bad - I also have a smith 17-4 now and it is the smoothest trigger I have ever handled - but I still go back the the MK III every time.

I've had a s&w 622,ruger single six and mark 2,colt huntsman, browning buckmark, gsg 1911 and the s&w mp22. The GSG is crap, mine is a POS that won't run more than one mag thru without screwing up,especially in the cold.It sits in the safe taking up space because it's too frustrating to use. Everything else worked great and and were great fun.My favorite of the bunch would have to be the Buckmark. It's been thru at least ten thousand rounds now and still works perfect. The M&P is still getting broken in,have about 500rds thru it but it's fast becoming a favorite.
