Ruger 10/22 vs Remington 597

Apples vs oranges!!!

The 10/22 is a reliable semi, the Remington is a Jam-O-Matic!!!
My 597 has never jammed once with round nose ammo. With hollow point ammo it occasionally jams but no more and often less than a Marlin 795, Ruger 10/22 and Savage 64 that I've used.

Im very satisfied with my 10/22. It always swallows; never spits out whatever quality ammo i feed it. The quality of the Rugers is also nice. If you find one buy it before someone else does, and if you want to sell it later in favor of another rifle it wont take you long.

I can't understand the attraction to either of these rifles to be honest, and i own a 597. What happened to the days of buying a .22 semi and shooting the S*** out of it? You never had to replace barrels or extractors or hammers etc. on the old lakefields, marlins ,cooey's etc. Both of these rifles have had their problems and have been around long enough to have all the kinks ironed out, especially the ruger!

I hear you...OP opted for Marlin 60.

I haven't had to do a thing with my 597, and that is part of it's appeal. I also prefer holding a full-sized rifle. I'm pretty sure that 50+ years from now, no one will look at it as I do an old Mossberg.

Even though I have many 22 rifles already, I am trading and getting a 10/22 very soon. I am doing this for one reason only, the ability to build and customize a rifle to my exact liking. I'm not over concerned with accuracy at this point since I have a CZ455 for accurate 22 shooting. A 10/22 with a shorter heavy barrel, and a few other goodies well as a 110 round drum mag is what I am after. A fun range toy that I can blast away with all day and entertain my friends with. Only one way of doing that in Canada and that's with a 10/22.

A poll won't do much good unless everyone participating have worked their 22 to maximum potential. And people tend to think a jam every 50 rounds or less is perfectly acceptable. IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, it is downright embarrassing. You can build a 10/22 for less than a grand that will never jam or fail, just by replacing a few stock parts and finding the magic ammo it likes.

Is this supposed to be an endorsement of the 10/22 ??

Having only personally owned the Remington of the two mentioned, I can say that I have had nothing but good experiences with mine. I run bulk Winchester and federal through it with no problems. Have had not one jam, ever. My best friend also has a 597, and has the same good things to say about it. I don't believe that every person who hates on the Remington has actually owned one. The sights are awesome on these too. From what I have heard, the Ruger is also an excellent choice.

When I spend all day at the range with my 10/22, it never jams anymore at all. I was trying to say people are accustomed to having a firearm that jams, and accept it as a way of life. It doesn't have to be accepted.

Can't speak for anyone else but if i had to spend a grand to make a .22 reliable,i would probably wrap it around a tree first.

Haha I'm with this guy

On another note I own a 597 bone stock with a crappy scope. It Jams with every type of ammo except cci. I was going to sell it and get a 10/22 but If I was to do it again I'd probably just go bolt action.

For now I just stock up on cci.
