91/30 Bayo is way to tight. Any ideas on how to make it fit?

So today I got a 1934, hex receiver, all matching mosin 91/30 for $200! pretty amazing. I was lucky to get it. The lady just unwrapped a few for me and I snagged the hex receiver as soon as I saw it. Wood is fantastic too. The main stock has almost no scratches or bumps but the hand guard has a big score line where the finish came off when I took off the barrel band. ANYWAYS, enough bragging. The damn bayonet I got will no go on. I mean I had to smack it with a rubber mallet to get it in place and I didn't bother twisting it into place because heck, I'd probably never get it back off. Any tips on how to get the bayo to fit, or should I just look for one that will go on better?
Thanks guys!

It should be quite tight, normal condition for these. Is it a matched number or did you get a random one out of the box? If it absolutely won't go you may need to very carefully remove a slight amount of metal from inside the socket. Check to see if there's a particular spot causing the poor fit or if it's just generally too tight.

The bayonet isn't matched. That would have been fantastic though! It is not possible to get the thing on by hand. I'll check for any tight spots. I think its just generally too tight. Thanks for the tip.

You may have to spread the open end with a screw driver.. As it turns out, mounting the bayo backwards & dropping the rifle can close the open end up.

The bayonet is supposed to fit so tight that you need a 2x4 (or mallet) to take it off. This was made this way so soldiers in the field do not remove them. The bayonets were only off during shipping, trucking, or crating.

If you want to open it, take a piece of sandpaper on a round dowel and work the inside of the hole for a few minutes. You don't need to take much off.

Some are so tight, the sandpaper trick doesn't work & it would still bind at the front sight. The bayo also has to come off for cleaning with the issue cleaning kit so its not supposed to be that tight.

I tried a tapered punch, aka an old pool cue. No luck, the pool cue just got shaved haha. I wedged two pry bars in the opening with their fulcrums against one another and gave them a hefty push. It goes on like a dream now and locks tight when in place. :)

It is light bit of grease on them plus they come from Polish Military School they made them shiny on purpose to look nicer during parades and drills
