I've got a 17" Sherline lathe with a bunch of accessories I'm thinking of selling, but before I do up a nice picture post of all the stuff (which necessitates me driving through crazy snow and semi-closed roads to get up to the cottage) is this anything that gunsmiths would be interested in? I'd rather it wind up in the hands of a shooter.

Is that a 17" swing, or bed length? 14" swing is about as big as most 'smiths I know use, 17" is getting up there for gun work.

Sherline only built small lathes. Usually around a 3 1/2" swing.

Not much call for a model making size lathe in the gunsmithing world. I even sold my 9x54" Southbend as it was too small for any barrel work.

You can always do small parts on a big lathe, but big parts on a small lathe.....

The Sherline would be good for firing pins, some cylinders, and would be great for making up small amounts of wildcat and obsolete brass, though.
