Hey guys,I finally got a chance to take out my colt hbar. I was really pumped on my way to Silverdale today anticipating my first outing. I warmed up with one of my precision rifles just to get my brain in aiming mode. After 20 rnds I pulled out the colt. I have a acog 4x32 so I couldn't see my hits which I didn't like. I fired a few rnds at the gong which is 200yds no problem hitting that. I have 12 mags so I used them up packed up and signed out. I left thinking that there must of been something missing because it felt very disappointing. What do you guys do to enjoy your AR's.
 
Get off the bench, compete in action matches. Work on reloads, mounting the rifle, controlled pairs when at a range where movement isn't permitted.

Yeah... shooting off a bench isn't any fun.
The only time I do it is when chronographing ammo or zeroing a rifle.
You gotta run and gun to have any fun
 
All depends on how your range is set up, how many people are present and what the rules are. But when possible
I like engaging multiple targets at different distances.
One of my favorites is setting up 3 small targets, 2 shots standing, 1 shot kneeling, 2 shots prone. Quickly followed by a mag change and repeat or hit a target further out. Each position shoots a separate target
If you have 10rd pistol mags you get even more fun. It makes things more physical. You work on breathing, economy of movement and muscle memory. Practical shooting.
Then transition from rifle to pistol. I still suck but I do have fun.
 
Having targets that will allow you to see where you hit w/o the need of a spotting scope is helpful to keeping the shooting more enjoyable. Targets that will allow a colour change when hit will usually do the trick. Bringing your own metal gong(s) (if allowed by range rules) set-up at different distances that you can engage at the same time allowing some diversity in your shooting will also keep it fun.

Being able to go out into the woods, find a safe shooting area and blast away at targets that break down/blow-up, but are easily cleaned up are what I have the NR toys for. Saying that I'm in the process of researching a AR10 to buy, but the Famae in .308 makes it harder to choose a AR being that it's Non-Restricted. We really need to change the status of the AR to NR. Okay rants over.

I get off on the ability to lego them . After a few months, if I get board, I'll take all my uppers apart, swap parts around, and rebuild them back up differently.

It's a different kind of enjoyment. but it offers longevity over other platforms.
Those rebuild sessions can quell that "I need to buy a new gun" urge.
Mind you, I tend to crave parts instead.

Same here + timed sequences like: Low ready , 1 X shot/2 seconds @ 25 meters. 2 shots/3 sec @ 50 meters. Barricade shooting, weak side shooting, standing, knealing, sitting, prone.

I practice with my AR like I shoot pistols. Combat shooting, not bullseye shooting. It's got to be fun and exciting!
 
AR' s are not really much use here in Canada, unless the thrills of bench shooting float your boat- I would sell that Colt before they are illegal - How much would you let it go for?:yingyang:

All of the above, especially that last one, at least for me. Bench shooting with a semi-auto seems like a waste of time to me.

Your expecting precision shooting from a rifle setup that won't furfill that. You said yourself you don't like not seeing where you hit. Get the ACOG off and put on a higher mag scope.

Don't worry. It's a Acquired taste :)
 
I wasn't expecting precision even though I was hitting what I aimed at. The gong I could hear and a small piece of dirt at 100yds. Not sure what I can mount on this gun but I do have a new viper hslr 6-24x50. If I can mount this I'm sure it will bring a smile.
 
I would love to try some 3 gun, not sure where to get started (I am near Peterborough Ontario) but I gotta say I still like blasting away at the range with my CQ. It's not old yet.T
