I want to replace the barrel of my remington SPS tactical 308 with a 20" threaded heavy barrel with a 1-10 twist. Anyone know of a Canadian supplier? Hope i can find an answer from my fellow CGNers.

Thanks y'all!

There is nothing wrong with another barrel 20 factory barrel or your original barrel, most of the time 98 percent the problem is the chamber are very sloppy, result inaccurate down range, you need compatent smith to set back 10 to 20 thausanth, and rechamber with match reamer, this will take care the problem.

I know it's a great barrel and shoots very well but being a cheap bastard, I wanted the less expensive route to a whole new rifle. I really want that 1-10 twist and thread on the barrel. The barrel I have is a 1-12 and no thread.

1-12 twist stabalize everything from 155gr to 190grain no problem, there is no need for brand new barrel, look for one take off or cut your original to 20 inchs is a great lenght, you may loose 100 fts or so, you just being smart that all.

True :)

Convince me about muzzle breaks. Clamp on or screwed on? It would be nice to keep my sight somewhat on target when I take a shot. I must admit, I like the cleaner look of a brake on a threaded barrel. Is this a difficult snd costly proposition?

If you can't keep your target in your field of view with a 308 your problem isn't a lack of muzzle brake but bad follow through after you break the shot through the recoil pulse.

I knew a reply on shooting fundamentals would come back some how. I agree but that doesn't work all the time for me. A nicer recoil when one is not in the "zone" would be nice once in a while?

if your dead set on a new barrel, Sean at north shore barrels is great to deal with..

if not, i have a rem 5R barrel here, that shoots right around 1/2 moa, with 175 smk... 750rnds down it.... hadnt really thought about selling it, but really, i have no use for it haha

Personally if I need a brand new barrel, I would also ask sean at northshore very good service, fast turn around, and the work are professional.

I have installed quite a few Benchmark barrels and all have been great shooters. Gary Eakin out of B.C. is the importer for benchmark good price , good delivery and awesome product.

I get Lilja barrels through ATRS in Calgary. They do my gunsmithing as well. Not cheap, but outstanding workmanship and service. I keep going back...

I just received my Benchmark barrel from Gary Eakin, or his handle: thereamerguy

Cheers, Barney

+1 Gary rocks. Only bough small stuff from him, but very good to deal with.

Also, of course Jerry @ Mystic can procure the weird and wonderful as well. Can't say enough good stuff about him.
