Just wondering about these so called 'Gold' plated bayonets?

First off, Gold is expensive and Russia is cheap so that they can build more, not more expensive!

Secondly, if they were going to "Bling" the Bayo, then why not do something to the rest of the rifle?

If you look at current Russian Honor Guards carrying the SKS the Bayonets are chrome colored, and the ones that have "bling" have them all Chrome. Go ahead google it, there ain't no Gold on'em gunz!

My belief is that Russians are more frugal, and A LOT MORE PRACTICAL than to bling one little part of the gun... From a longterm storage point of view it would make sense to coat the only exposed metal on the rifle (the bore is most likely chromed). That being said it does look nice, but I'm willing to bet it's just a resin or varnish like substance to protect it from corrosion during storage. In fact, I've heard that if you use solvent or lacquer thinners you can remove it! Not worth spending an extra $200 on a rifle IMHO. I guess buyer beware!

Anyone really know what the deal is?

I actually have one. And from what I've seen you're correct on all counts.

As far as I know no one is POSITIVE as to why it was done, but it's definitely not gold plating.

The true golden bayo is just a form of Zinc dichromate plating used on bolts and fasteners like this

For those of you confused, there is a couple SKS rifles on the EE right now touted as parade rifles selling for $400. They have refurb marks and have "gold plated" bayos on them. Not the typical gold colour bayos most are thinking of.

The seller is saying they are super rare, and it looks like the op is challenging that knowledge on the basis that parade rifle bayos were not gold plated, but chromed.

The parade rifles used the laminate stocks too not the hardwood if I am not mistaken...

I had to go check out the ad. Last time I was in Canadian tire they had four of those on the rack for $200 apiece. Rare? Meh.... The blued/black bayonets look better anyway.

Exactly the ones I was referring to!... I'm going to guess the seller doesn't know, but would like to think he 'scored' something rare. I just hate seeing some other guy who doesn't know waste his money on someone's lack of knowledge, or worse, being taken for a ride!

Always "Buy the Gun, not the Story!"

P.S. LOVE the identification of the "Parade Bolt" but it is missing the "Parade Nut" attachment and "Parade Washer" accessory that goes with it.
