I was out plowing this morning and wanted to open up my range and a bait pile I had started.
As I was plowing in my back hoe I spotted what I thought was a coyote heading for the woods away from me. I grabbed my 7615P .223 Ghost ring sights which rides around in a scabbard.
Jumped out loaded on the run and caught him looking at me from the fence line. It was a fox! He took off running to the west and on the 3rd shot I smoked him. I laser ranged him at 125 yards..
I believe this is the chicken thief my neighbour has been complaining about.
I absolutely love this rifle. This is my 2nd kill this winter. First was a mangy coyote.
I plan to get this guy stuffed.

I almost left my rifle at the house when I went in for coffee. Glad I went back to get it.:p

Only fox I have seen in the wild( not the bar type or beach ones) was romping through the Rape fields back in '78.
Twas knows as Rape seed back then and now known as Canola.
Red and bright yellow man , what a contrast.

I like the coat colouring on that fox. The ones up here have a lot less red, and more black and brown... kind of ugly, really.

Nice job; I'm sure a quality mount will be a nice trophy. As will the chickens and eggs it doesn't eat!
 
Nice, they've been getting a little more plentiful in my hunting area lately, judging by the number of them I'm spotting. Although I love whacking coyotes I choose to leave the red guys alone, they're neat to watch. Of course the ones that made their way into the chicken coop on the farm used to mysteriously die of lead poisoning...

Lead him about 6 inchs or so.
I dropped it off at the Taxidermist an hour ago.
Full body mount. front feet on an old stump, walnut base.
Not cheap but will be worth it.
The lady doing it does amazing work.
She noted it to be about a year old, in beautiful shape.
I was surprised by the small exit wound.
I was a lucky boy today!

Not many mangy foxes around here, our population is healthy and plentiful... We hunt them until the last day of February... The K-Hornets are our favorite fox guns, with 17 HMR's in thicker cover... The 20 grain XTP's do a really good job on fox.

Unfortunately you guys are probably short on trappers which leads to this kind of problem.

Bargain,sure is a nice change up to see a nice red and taken with irons at a fair distance is just fantastic. Hows the fur? I mean did the 223 do much damage besides killing the hell out of him?
 
Congratulations, nice looking fox, I remember my grandfather had one stuffed. We don’t have many foxes around here anymore due to the coyotes. I have seen a couple in the wild deer hunting with a high powered rifle and never took a shot.
Anyone know highway 632 might have seen some foxes there. The cottagers feed them at the side of the road. A few years ago the wife and I saw the mother, threw her some left overs we had and about five pups came out. We still see the foxes in the area, it’s pretty populated so the coyotes don’t come in.
 
That will be a nice trophy of a great looking animal, congrats! Last summer there was a family leaving under a neighbors shed....I have to say the young pups are really cute....if your not a chicken farmer that is!

I was very surprised at the small exit wound on the fox. Size of a dime. I expected to blow the hell out of it.
I was shooting the Hornady 40gr factory loads.
The taxidermist said it was so small it was a non issue.
 
Nice work! And a very beautiful fox, I might add.

The foxes up here are usually very healthy.

Have been watching a very nice looking [and fair size] Silver variant lately.
I am tempted to add him to the collection.

We used to have a fox season here, but for some reason they closed it for hunters and now only trappers can harvest them. Too bad as we have lots of them around.
