I am planning on buying a Centerthegroup trifold mat and had a question.

What is the purpose of the black neopreme ?

Is it more for the TR shooter?

Wouldnt it get extremely hot in the sun?

Has anyone ever had one made without the neopreme or would it be beneficial to hold the rear bag in place?

Thanks

It is for extra grip. Beneficial whenever extra grip is needed - TR shooters but also Fclass may benefit. It can become hot in direct sun - an unfortunate tradeoff. The canvas mat I use for Fclass has no neoprene and grips well. If I was shooting ISSF competition I would want as much advantage as the rules allow.

The black rubber is great for keeping your rear bag where you want it, however it can get screaming hot in the summer sun. Send Paul a note asking about getting a mat similar to what I talked to him about, with a much narrower rubber section so I can protect my delicate elbows. Barring that, most guys will put a towel down which also helps to absorb some sweat.

Or reverse the mat and warm up your knees! The black is nice in the spring shoots we have out here, but I eventually cut the thread stitching holding the neoprene to the mat and shoot without.

If you're shooting TR, then the rubber getting hot won't be a problem, since whenever you're lying down on it you'll be wearing a shooting jacket (so your elbows and arms will be covered)

I have one. Like it a lot. Sometimes the rubber gets hot, so I throw a white towel on it. No big deal really. It makes a great heat sink on cooler days to help you warm up.
