Looking to get my first pistol, had been thinking of an M&P but then saw these nice Ruger SR9s and the price is pretty cheap. I can get one for $479, its the version with the stainless slide. seems like a deal

Any input or opinion would be appreciated

Hickock45 likes it.

Yeah I love hickock, I watched this actually, its the SR9c though, smaller version of the SR9... they're a nice looking gun. I think I might go to Wholesale sports and see if they have any in stock and see how it feels in my hand

I bought one for my wife as an entry level pistol and its awesome!! We've since bought 2 more and everyone that shoots it like it. Put thousands of rounds through them with out issue. A good shooter for sure.

I have one, I really like it too. At first the slide/frame interface is a bit rough, but it does smooth out. No problems related to this, but it just doesn't feel as nice as some other pistols, but its also quite a bit cheaper than those.

the trigger, when new is kind of gritty and a bit long. It gets better just by shooting it, or you can smooth out the striker channel. Also there are some cheap upgrades from a guy in the states, and he ships here. these make it way better. Trigger is smoother and has a shorter reset, and lighter pull than any Glocks I have shot.

I did have an occasional failure to extract, but it was really rare so it was hard to track down. I finally found it to be a slightly bent ejector. Since I straightened that out, its not a problem. I am pretty sure I did that too, with my first time field stripping it. I left the ejector in the up position and stuffed the slide back on, tweaking it.

Those are the only real problems/issues with it. Its easy to take down, easy to clean, eats anything, is accurate for a short service pistol and its reliable. And, as you point out its cheap! Fits the hand great, with the swappable back strap, and its nice and slim while still having a nice grip.

its very pointable with the low bore axis. this also helps keep muzzle flip down.

I have the black one, and it looks great too.

I use mine for IDPA and just for fun at the range, and its great for that stuff.

I have a 15# mainspring and stainless guide rod for shooting lighter target ammo, a shorter trigger reset and a spring kit in mine. I also have a Comp-Tac Minotaur holster and double mag pouch for it. It all works really well and even with the expensive holster and pouch, and all the little bits, its well under the cost of most other pistols.

Oh, you will have to get a case for is, as the stock plastic case doesn't have a place to put a lock thru it and its frankly, cheap crap.

Thanks, good to know, seem like the reviews I saw most people love this pistol. The price sure seems right

thanks all

I think I shot with you in Chilliwack last summer. First and only time I seen an SR9, I was impressed at with your shooting and the accuracy of the SR9. Odd how they don't get much attention it seems.

I bought one. I really wanted to like it.

I didn't like how it was made. They seemed to cut corners everywhere they could.

I didn't like the trigger and it shot poorly compared to everything else I have.

It is the only gun I have ever sold.

triplepete, thanx, I am pretty new, but I do have some good moments :)

Clotho, what generation was yours? the older ones were frankly crap. the newer ones are much better. Still, yes, they are under five bills, so there has to be some difference between them and a Sig ;)

Had one it was pretty 'Meh'. For a first gun when you don't know any better it's OK I guess, but I've had quite a few polymer guns (lots of Glocks, few M&Ps, XDm, Steyr M9A1, FNP9, CZ P-07 Duty, HK USP maybe some others I cant remember) and SR9 didn't stack up too well, but it is the cheapest of the bunch new.

If you have the cash to buy one new you can get a better used gun in ext condition.

the SR9 is a great little pistol, accurate and eats a great variety of ammo. for that price, you can't go wrong. really, buy it shoot 10,000 rounds through it and sell it for $300, it will have cost you all of a few tanks of gas in ownership for loads of fun. Its a good all around pistol. Are there better? of course, are there worse yes. if it fits and you like it buy it. I have one and like it a lot

I did not like Steyr at all; its the worst polymer gun I've[ had. XDm was alright but i didnt like much either grip was too long and uncomfortable.
ok, sorry to derail slightly, but I am seriously looking at either the Styer or the XDm. They are really that much better?

I shot an SR9C extensively when I was in West Virginia staying with family, once back here I immediately picked up an SR9 in black and haven't looked back. It doesn't get to the range as much as my GP100 but its a solid shooter especially for the price.

SR9 great pistol ... bought one last year on the EE .. fits hand .. bought as Mrs. Rocor did not like feel of the Glock21c and thought Norc 1911 was too heavy. Is she happy now! .. cheap to reload 9mm, lots of great reviews.

Buy two extra mags with the $ you would have to pay for a Steyr ..

My experience on the EE was great, but I have been buying online since the 90's .. even bought a used Toyota Celica for 17k one time .. know your seller, phone is your friend .. read their posts to get communication style .. problems can only grow out of assumption ( poor communication )

I like my SR9...is it amongst the very best pistols out there...no. But for about $500 and the price of a Ghost Rocket connector and a few parts from the US outfit that ships to Canada, it's a pretty decent pistol. I also took a Dremel and polished the contact points of the slide with some Brasso, which made the action smoother. With these improvements the SR9 makes an inexpensive, pretty decent pistol.

I went to wholesale sports today and held one, I have small hand and it fit very well. The are $479 which is the cheapest prices I've seen so far, I think I will go for it.

thanks for the replies all

If you go for it and want the info on how to make it a pretty decent pistol for low dough then PM me...I'm in West Kelowna now, but I grew up in Surrey. Go for it Corry...it's a good little pistol with a couple of mods...
