.41 slug

Do you mean .410? if that is the case it is marginal. I'm not saying it hasn't or won't effectively kill deer if legal where you live. If you can find the Brenneke 3" slug for the .410 it seems to perform at a level similar to the .357 magnum from a pistol so a 40 or so yard capable deer round (if you had a better sights then a bead) depending on its accuracy in your gun.

If you happen to have lucked into one of the .41 magnum Marlin 1894 carbines I would say yes its a deer cartridge.

A .410 with a slug does not have much energy and would not be a "good" round to go deer hunting with. It is not legal to do so in Alberta.

With shot it is legal for waterfowl but would have a very limited range and a small shot pattern. A patient expert shot could shoot some ducks with it but the average guy would do much better with at least a 20 ga.

I have a little double .410 that I use for grouse and rabbits. Particularly grouse along road sides.

I agree with Duffy. Keep the .410 for rabbits, ground sluicing grouse, and if you truly need to keep yourself humble the clay games. If you find yourself to be among truly gifted with a .410 then pigeons, doves, snipe/woodcock and grouse on the wing. There is no reason to harass ducks with a .410 it will loose and wound far more the needed.

Bow range and a little farther if you have good accuracy. It'll do it but I'd pick something a little more precise at distance unless there's some sort of restriction.
