I don't own a Savage but out of curiosity I did a brief search via google on this topic and there seems to be a fair bit out there about it. Seems to be a simple fix...if needed.
I'm curious if anyone has tried the thrust bearing trick I read about...

Savages have a reputation for being hard to open. I practice opening the bolt not by grapsing it between the forefinger and thumb but smashing it open with a tensed up hand.
I got the idea from seeing footage of Finns smash open their mosin nagants bolts in WWII.
I took my Savage to a gunsmith (Jason Spencer) and he said the only way to make the bolt easier to open was to weaken the main bolt spring -- he didn't recommend doing that and so I didn't.
I have a few Savages and the only one that had a stiff bolt was the Edge/Axis, and even it became a little smoother after use. The one on my 111 cycles a hell of a lot nicer than those on the M700s that I have tried.

Mine was pretty decent after about 60 rounds. Wish I could find one of these kits though that would work for the axis![]()

There's a spacer piece you need also, not just the bearings.I don't own a Savage but out of curiosity I did a brief search via google on this topic and there seems to be a fair bit out there about it. Seems to be a simple fix...if needed.

It comes with the kit from Ishodu and is the silver part behind the bolt handle and right under the end bolt.

It is like a washer but I think it needs to be a specific thickness as it looks custom machined to me.So like a washer or bushing?
