In sure I'm not alone, and I'm probably missing something here but how is it that magazines for the most common and well known firearm in the world are scarce, nowhere to be found and demanding an outrageous premium here in Canada? I mean these things should be falling from trees like leaves and people should have to pay other people to remove them from their yards, I just don't get it.

With all of the importers and friends overseas (zahal, wink wink talking to you) we should have no problems getting refurb, surplus or new ak mags and at a damn good price. Anyone know something I don't?

There is very little firearms that take the AK mags and becuase of that the need to import them is rare.
What people have for sale in the EE or otherwise is just a huge mark up.

Best place i find for a decent priced mag is from NR Magazines.

Not that long ago 7.62 AK mags were going for about $35, There is no shortage of AK mags; there are still tons of AK mags kicking around, just have to know where to look. 223 AK mags are a different beast, they have always commanded a premium. I think the problem is some people don't know how or where to source items so they buy a $70 AK mag from a dealer thinking that is the going price. AKs use to be legal here and were very popular what do you suppose happened to all of those mags from all those guns?
If you are looking for AK mags why not try a "wanted to buy thread" in the EE

Its a regional thing , in bc water flows into the ocean while in the desert countries its precious , It cost too much getting it there.

Bfiles is correct , if there is a market here , someone or some company would have done it already , our market is too bloody small, thats why our prices will always be higher than the US which is probably 20x bigger but im alright with that .

Prohibited firearm. No demand for 'em. Can't shoot an AK anywhere anyway.

Not true. We shoot our prohibs in organized shoots from time to time. I guess what you meant to say was "I don't know how to shoot an AK anywhere anyway."

I am not going to explain how organized prohib shoots are done here on a public forum. Don't want to spoil a good working relationship.

I've found AK mags in the EE at a decent price, but only occasionally. They're $10-20 in the States for your average Euro manufactured mag. Absolutely no reason for the outrageous pricing here aside from pure greed because retailers think we have nowhere else to get them. Marstar, for all their self-proclaimed clout as some highly connected arms dealer, are one of the worst offenders.

As for .223 mags I have many, though they aren't for sale.

Yes, Marstars prices are just pure gouging. I got a good deal on a bakelite tula ak47 mag which that too was one of the more expensive ak mags I bought and it was 65$ + shipping.
Now drum mags are a different ball game. For my Romanian slanted drums they were over $300 a piece and even that is pretty good considering the rarity of them

Yikes. Romy drums are not all that rare down south, I got a rear-loading model imported for $150 or so. Gotta find the right seller.

I picked up a bunch of East German 30 rounders on the EE, now those are nice mags. Also have a bunch of Chinese flatbacks which are also pretty slick (no pun intended). Still looking for a bakelite but every time I see one they seem to go before I have the chance. Trade you some 20 round Hungarian tanker mags? :)
