I'm thinking of buying the RCBS turret press, as my first venture into reloading.

I've done a bit of research into the varieties of presses and their price points and product availability and quality, and decided this is the brand I most likely want to purchase based on my financial limitations, and feedback.

I plan on using it for pistol and rifle loading, mostly 9mm, 357, 45, and 300 caliber rifle. I liked the idea of a sort-of-progressive so I can set up 2 or more dies, but without all the fuss and cost of a full on progressive press, and just run it like a single-stage press when it suits me.

Now, that said, I am asking if there are any notably problems with this press, and if anything needs to be bought or changed, before I commit to buy. One account says it has widely inconstant headspacing, but that seems to be the only problem I've heard about it.

I don't want to go full progressive, so, is this press worth it, or, should I stick with a single stage, as my first press?

Rcbs has great customer service

never owned one of the turret presses but if you do multible calibers and don't like changing dies it is the one to get

if you load 9mm, 357, 45, and 300 caliber rifle you will need 2-3 heads (turrets only have 6 holes) and if you mount powder measure ??? --turrents are not cheep

I own a RCBS turret press and like it, I started with a Lee turret press but later changed to the RCBS one. I have found that the RCBS turret press works very well and is built a lot stronger and has little to no movement unlike the Lee that I started with, not that there is anything wrong with Lee I just prefer the RCBS.

As a first press the turret press is a good choice because once you have your dies set in the turret all you have to do is move it to the die you want to use, depending on your die set up you should get 2 calibres per turret.

As for the headspacing issue I have not run into any problems myself but then I haven't loaded anything bigger than the 223 for rifle cartridges, most of my rifle cartridges get reloaded on the single stage press that I have.

Another plus with the RCBS it their warranty, you just can't beat it if you ever need it.

Good luck on whichever way you decide to go and welcome to the world of reloading

If you're not worried about turning out thousands of pistol rounds, then a single stage press will do you fine. I own a RCBS press, I like it, it works, no problems with it. But knowing what I know now, I'd seriously consider getting one from ATR.

I did see the thread, and think that it's a very nice looking press... but it's a bit far out of my price range right now. I'd like to get a press and equipment to start, and $650+ for just the press is out of my budget range. Nothing wrong with those presses, just, above what I can spend.
