With bottle neck cases, if you use the same brass from YOUR rifle, you can neck size only and cut down on having to trim the case. I'm on my 4th or 5th firing on some of my 308Win cases and haven't needed to trim yet. I did anneal them after the 5th firing.
With an AR, a fellow CGNer said I could get away from FL sizing and trimming if i just neck size only, just like how i do my 308. I did 20rnd from my AR and sure enough, zero feeding issues with neck sized cases. I did some research with regards to neck sizing AR cases and most recommend doing a FL size after the 4th or 5th firing.
If you crimp (as in shooting from an semi-auto), you'll want all your cases to be the same length so the crimp is even throughout your batch.
