A friend of mine recently inherited a family 6mm-06 but has no ammo. Although he has the dies, he wants to get someone with more experince to reload them. He just placed the order, but was told that there was a nation wide shortage of magnum primers and 4350 powder. Also he was told 30-06 brass is tough to find. No ETA given on availability in the near future ... just keep checking in and maybe one day you'll get lucky. Anyone know where he can source these?

Not a reloader myself ... hope that makes sense ... just repeating from his text.

budget shooter at the top should help. imr 4350 is tough to find but h4350, h4831 or a few others could be substuted. look in a couple of reloading manuels and see what is close. there is usually a few different powders that can be subsituted. henry @ budget is showing primers in stock as well. as for brass if you can't find new there is lots of once fired on the ee's. if you can't find any pm me.

Where in BC are you located? It sounds like your buddy's suppler may be stringing him along.

The 6mm-06 uses standard large rifle primers, magnum primers not required.

30-06 brass is easy to find.

As mentioned there are several medium-slow burning rate powders that will work in his 6mm-06.

I was in a Sporting goods store today and saw 2 bags of new 30-06 brass hanging on the display, so cannot see an issue with that.

Magnum primers, [if actually needed] are also available from several sources here in BC.

As for powders, it has already been said, lol.

Regards, Dave.

I haven't had any issues finding primers of any kind. As for 30-06 brass, it's one of the easiest to find. As to a shortage of powder, unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past year, it's nothing new.

Thanks for the powder options ... I will pass that on.

That is what I told him, thus my post here. I am not sure why he needed magnum primers, but it might be the supplier again leading him astray ...?

Sounds like brass won't be an issue then. Don't think he cares if it is new or once fired.

You could say both he and I have been under the proverbial rock when it comes to reloading that is! :)

Thanks guys! I was pretty sure this didn't sound right to me. I will pass this onto him. He owes me a shooting session with it now!
