Mauser action identification

The plethora of makes and models of commercial and military 98 Mausers makes identification challenging. You might try to match up one of these manufacturers' identification marks with the ones on your rifle, although a custom or semi-custom rifle might have had the original marks removed. Check out the letter codes as well as the numerical codes

That is a Spanish Model 1944 action, you can tell by the EA serial number and the remnants of the crest. Either Spanish made with Argentine technical data or scrubbed and remarked German or Polish action.

This is a very timely thread as I too have a Mauser that's difficult to identify.
Its a 98 with a thumb cut and has had all markings polished off including serial numbers.
The right side of the receiver is marked F 3 and on the receiver flat underneath is the letter K.

Any ideas / suggestions ?

Thanks MiG25 for the info. Bought this on EE and was informed it was a customized Mauser rifle made in 1970's. It is a great looking rifle.
I am not familiar with all the mauser variants and was being stumped by the lack of the thumb cut out.
I have been trying to mount scope bases and rings on this action ....what a chore!!
Trouble getting the bases aligned... no doubt expected with a military action from the 40's.
Will search for a one piece base to help with this if one is made?
Thanks again guys.
Cheers

One piece bases for the M98 action are made but your's is not drilled and tapped for the standard hole spacing on the front receiver ring. It isn't in the location I drill and tap them either. Normally a M98 takes a #46 Weaver base on the front and #45 on the rear but with the non standard hole spacing on the front receiver ring this isn't going to apply although you may still be able to use the #45 on the rear and match something up for the front.

The action has had extensive mods done including removal of the charger hump on the rear bridge so dimensions may not be original as far as height and dia of the rear receiver ring. Shimming of the bases or non standard bases may be needed.

It's a nice looking rig and definitely worth while mounting a scope on it.
