627 is stainless and doesn't have any rail. The 327 is like in the picture. Both are awesome
Of course if you buy a 627, you'll be very tempted to get a 327. The only problem I see from the guys that own both sometimes end up selling the 327 over recoil issues (my guess) or they just cannot stand the look of a rail system on a revolver.

The rails are removable. The recoil I find is very manageable, and if you find it excessive you can always load up with .38. There is one on EE right now that is a bargain in my mind at $1300, I cant believe its not sold!

There are 2 versions of this gun, the 327 TRR8 and the M&P R8.
The main differences, being the TRR8 has removable top and bottom rails and has a brass dot front sight and a U rear. The R8 has a White dot front sight and a V rear and only the top rail is removable. Otherwise they are practically identical.
As I mentioned in another thread, Guns and Ammo had an R8 that they tested and it put 1/2" groups at 50 yards with handloads. This is a 1" handgun at 100yards. It is more accurate than anyone could ever hope to be shooting freehanded.
I matched mine with a sourdough pancake holster and a custom bladetech. Also, speedloaders from 5 star firearms.
THis is a fabulous revolver in either iteration. I was never a revolver guy until I shot one of these. Smooth as butter trigger and accurate.
I believe the design of the R8 is that it was commisioned for German police who needed a handgun for the point man carrying a shield. They wanted a handgun that didn't have the possibility of the slide hitting the shield during entries causing failures, so they wanted to go with a revolver design. Naturally they contacted S&W and the 327 R8 was born. The TRR8 is just a slightly modified version a little more civie friendly with the removable bottom rail.
