reccomended aperture size for an AR in CQB matches?

I am going to run a carry handle AR in CQB matches this year. What would you guys recommend for an aperture size for CQB matches?. Thanks in advance for your help.
 
Run a red dot optic and you'll be fine... but if you absolutely have to run irons the BIG one (~50) would be a good one.
 
I agree with the above. Just use the larger diameter that comes standard no a carry handle and you will be fine. The smallest scoring area (5 point rectangle) is 2 inch x 4 inches. At 35 yards that's 5.7 x 11.4 MOA which is pretty big and we only shoot closer after the 35 yard stage.

I would suggest investing time at the range in figuring out your aim points at the various shooting distances (35, 30, 25, 20, 15 and 10 yds) to see where you have to hold to hit where you want. Or what you want to adjust your rear sight for to hit POA/POI. At least you have that option using a carry handle (I assume it's an A2 with elevation and windage adjustments?) unlike most BUIS.
 
The large aperture will work, but it is easier to mis-align the front post within the aperture, especially at speed.
This might not seem like much on paper at 35m and under, so it depends on the level of precision you want in your shooting at that distance.

I find it more consistent and ironically faster with the small aperture to make precise hits with the AR.
I'm aiming to keep all hits within the wrist though - so it again depends on what your objective is.
I've shot only a couple of CQB matches similar to your's in Ont. with irons though - a reflex sight is most definitely faster - gives you more time to squeeze those rounds off.
 
If you check you point of impact against your point of aim you will probably find that your 25m will match your 500m sight setting.
So you could switch your sights to 500 and leave them there for the duration of the match. It is a flat square range shortcut that will make life easier in a number of situations.
 
Having used iron sights (M14 clone) for CQB in the past I'd suggest painting the front sight bright orange or other bright colour. Makes picking it out against a close black target easier.

My carry handle is fixed and is an a1 style, I have a love for retro AR's so That is what I built. ITs an 11.5 inch barrel so plugs and muffs fellow shooters.

THat's very true. If you can spend $45? and get a tritium tipped front sight post. Search around some of them are white in daylight makes it easier to pick up.

Cool, yup, work on your drops at close range compared to your zero so you can adjust your hold to keep the pickles in the 5 "ring" or there abouts. Sucks when you shoot nice tight groups but they are low and out of the 5.

Maybe post a pic of your rifle. Sounds like a nice light weight rig.
