Fellow gunnutz,

I'm looking for a gunsmith that can bobtail a 1911. I posted in Herron Arms section to know if they do that kind of work but haven't gotten a reply yet.

In the mean time, I'd like to know if anyone is aware of a gunsmith that has experience with that specific modification.

I know Armco could do it, but given all the relatively recent bad reviews I've read, I'd like to go with someone else.

Thanks,
Cheers.

Casey is easily one of the best smiths ive ever used.

Why not try the bob tail yourself?

Interesting idea. I'll have to look into what the procedure is. Equipment/installation might be an issue, but I'll look into it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Brownelles has a jig aside from that just a cut off wheel and various files/sandpaper for finish work
Good luck eigther way.

Are we talking about "bobbing" the hammer or installing a "beavertail" grip safety.

Bobbing hammer = big file and careful "bobbing" to suit or installing a "commander" style hammer.

Installing a "beavertail" grip safety involves more serious work and if you have to ask "how" - you shouldn't be doing it yourself...

None of the above. look up "1911 bobtail" in google.

How hard can it be? And as far as asking how, I didn't know how to do a lot of things before the first time I did them. Including quite a bit of gun stuff. As far a bobbing a 1911, that should be pretty simple to do yourself if you can get hold of all the parts, even easier if you get a jig.

He's talking about bobtailing the frame and main spring housing, like my Sig below.
