Curious question: Reason for making /AK's Prohibited

Now i've known for ever that a,rs are restricted, i didn't just discover this. I was just thinking and wondering why they decided to do this, i'm not going to even waste time explaining how it makes no sence whatsoever to pick on a.rs by name.


Im going to make this a 2 part question and add ak's into the mix.

Now ak's the same thing. The answer for AK'S might be kind of obvious, but if thats the case then the laws just got even stupider. Did they really all out BAN ak's (and give this as the reason) because bad guys in movies use them?

And that no one called them out on this? Its sad that our government even has this kind of power in the first place, ahem the u.s constitution was the greatest document known to man, sadly even the u.s politicians especially the president spit on it daily.

edit:The title originally said AR's restricted and i posted in a different section but was edited and moved, i did originally mention ak.s like in the post but i was mainly talking about ars then asked OR MENT TO ask why ak's were also picked on and prohibited ... unless i was on drugs when i posted this and hallucinated or was just super tired, i did post this late at night

I don't know why this was moved, and title changed... I REPEAT I KNOW AK'S ARE PROHIB NOT RESTRICTED. I'm kinda mad that the title looks this way. make me look pretty ignorant.

Also i would like to add theirs tons of semi only ak's in the u.s

AK's are prohibited. They're FA firearms. No new prohibited permits since 1978. The Socialist F**ks added 'and any variant' to ban semi-auto versions too. They seemed to think criminals would buy one and instantly convert it to FA.
The U.S. Constitution gets ignored by U.S. Federal, State and municipal politicians. Their legislation gets shot down or approved by the U.S. SC regularly. However, it has nothing to do with us.
Several U.S. government agencies have been allowed to make law by regulation. The Socialist F**ks got a lot of their stupid ideas from those U.S. government agencies.
 
Didn't they say the only reason the ar's aren't prohibs is because they were used for sporting competitions, and the gov't figured they couldn't get away with prohib'ing them?

AK's are scary bad guy guns, that is all you need to know, and you should thank the govt for protecting you from them...
 
Everything in the Firearms Act is designed for one result . That is to get Canadians to NOT own guns . Long term , that is the desired result . The lack of reasonable regulations and the confusion caused is designed to make civilians decide it's not worth the hassle to own ANY gun .
 
The issue is the commercial semi auto AK's, not the actual article which was covered by 12(2) or 12(3).

When the semi auto AK's began to be imported in the late 70's/early 80's, most had 16" barrels and were covered by the restricted SBR regs.

This kind of limited their popularity.

In the 1980's, some importers started to have them made in China with longer barrels which allowed them to be imported as non restricted rifles.

Sound familiar?

The "assault weapons" hysteria manufactured by the media and gun control groups in the U.S.A. seeped across the border in the late 80's/early 90's. The AK became the symbol of L.A. street gangs (Bloods/Crips) and big city U.S.A. lawlessness.

Then, a few of the Indians in Oka in 1990 were featured quite prominently with Chinese semi auto AK's.

Kim Campbell and the PC's decided to legislate against guns and their owners, to show the media they were "doing something" to stop crime and prevent Canada going down the same path as the evil/awful/terrible/violent tm U.S.A.

All semi auto AK's were declared restricted by OIC under Bill C-17 (1991). The idea was to get them registered as a prelude to an organized, controlled confiscation by the RCMP at a later date.

They were in the restricted category for about a year or two, not many actually got registered. I think only about 4000 out of the tens of thousands imported. This was a popular sub $1000 gun, about the same as the CZ 58 of today, sold non restricted. As usual, the new law was poorly communicated, badly implemented, poorly understood by gun owners, police officers, firearms officers - everybody. Many semi auto AK owners did not get the memo about the change in the law.

Some police agencies made up their own rules and just confiscated them outright. You had to go to court to get them back. Some people actually got registrations, but they were the minority.

Kim Campbell and the PC's were defeated in the 1993 federal election by Chretien and the Liberals. During 93/94 there was chaos with the whole firearms classification system; people were getting charged under the new laws, guns were getting confiscated and going missing, nobody knew what the hell was going on. This was pre internet days so information was sketchy and poorly understood - even by the bureaucrats implementing and enforcing the law.

Alan Rock and the Liberals introduced Bill C-68 in 1995. All the military rifles restricted under C-17 were to be banned outright under C-68. They finally relented and allowed people who held registrations for them to be "grandfathered". DCRA made an argument that delayed adding the AR15 to the prohibited list, although the Liberals had an OIC prepared to do that later. Sneaky, but that's gun control lobbyists and politicians for you.

That's why they were banned. Not because they were any more dangerous than any other gun, but because it was politically expedient to do so.

And the RCMP/Media/Civil disarmament lobby want more done today. That's the "spirit of the legislation" after all.

I have seen it mentioned in a number of places that the real reason for prohibiting all the black rifles was because the politicians feared the natives being well armed and so banned everything under the guise of public safety and crime reduction. Of course, they could have grown a pair and dealt with the real problem instead, but law abiding gun owners are much safer, easier targets. 24 years later we are still waiting for a politician with balls enough to deal properly with the native issues.

The bottom line is that these decisions, like many political decisions, do not make any sense other than in the political context in which they were made, and trying to find the logic in them is a hopeless exercise.
 
The whole point of Canadian gun laws is so that you can't own them, it's that simple.

If the infected arseholes who got us in this current mess are allowed to continue their agenda's we will be left with nothing more than nerf guns.

Except all AKs aren't full auto. There are several versions, especially in the US that are semi auto only. So the 1978 ruyling is moot. If it wasn't prohib by name, there would be as many AKs up here as ARs.

AR15s were going to be prohib too, except for some stellar grass roots lobbying from the service rifle crowd. That is why they are restricted by name. Allowed on ranges for competition but not allowed for anything else.
 
those ak47's in oka brandished by the mohawks were from Russia kids, not China. You see the Italian mafia sold the guns to the natives. The Italians had got them from the Russian mob because they were doing business together. The natives were doing business with the Italians by letting them use Akwasasne as a smuggling point for illegal aliens, stolen cigarretes, drugs and also the Italians were running a casino on native land that they received a kick back from, the natives eventually got hold of some of those ak47's. There is a book called the Merger that talks about all this.
 
Here in BC, we had the Guftafson Lake standoff. Many of the protesters (white and native) also had full auto firearms. I saw the RCMP Suburban that was disabled by the protesters, it must have had thousands of bullet holes in it. At the time it was thought that most of these firearms came into Canada through the Blackfoot Reserve in Montana.

The title originally said AR's restricted but was moved, i did originally mention ak.s like in the post but i was mainly talking about ars then asked OR MENT TO ask why ak's were also picked on and banned.... unless i was on drugs when i posted this and hallucinated

I'd like to add MANY ak's in the u.s are semi, and i believe can't be converted. (without modding the whole gun, which ofcourse you could then convert every semi auto into full auto with that kind of reasoning)

They went and took some thick gun magazines and proceeded to ban everything that looked scarey in them, also at the time compact pistols were being picked on in the media as cheap easily obtainable highly deadly guns that gang bangers love and proceeded to ban 50% of the legally owned handguns because of it.

And there you have it in a nut shell.
 
Because they have the big banana "clip", and the thingy at the back by your shoulder that goes up, and and they're dangerous baby eating assault weapons of mass destruction. At least that's what the media says anyways...must be true

This is what they said "Gangbangers found them to be the perfered choice as they were easily concealable" After the ban of these short barrel models, They then reinvented thier position to require the ban of the larger calibre handguns as gangbangers perfered them as they were a symbol of status.

The truth is the liberals just want to ban guns, AKs were just a start, Anything other then a bolt action hunting rifle has been earmarked.

Bolt action hunting rifles have been earmarked. They call them 'high powered sniper rifles'.
