Club recommendations for multigun GTA West

Hey guys,

I am currently a BRRC member, which is a nice club for handgun shooting and one of our members throws the occasional IPSC rifle practice match but shotguns are slugs only and it's an indoor 50yd range. That's why I'm looking for a secondary club for a bit of outdoor fun, preferably where members regularly do long gun run and gun. Since I'm in the SW corner of Toronto, the East end is pretty much out of the picture, so I wanted to hear some recommendations and thoughts on the local offerings (thanks in advance). The club would ideally have the following:

1) 200+yd rifle range (willing to compromise on this one if it has 100m)

2) Rifles and shotties allowed on the action range(s) (might accept shotguns only)

3) Regular practices at times when one an reasonably expect to get out of Toronto and make it in one piece (nice to have, but will live without if necessary)

Notes on some clubs...

HAHA - Not an option - had an administrative mess with that club and it turned into a $400 single range trip. Decided not to inquire about my renewal notice
Silverdale - Possible, but I'm not sure about shotties on the action ranges and if any groups meet up for actual practice - would prefer a proper club setting
Galt - Talking to a member I know, possible major membership hoops to jump through, probably #1 option even though the "pistol club first" thing scares me
Guelph - The hours and probation suck, enough said
EESA - Great club, would join in a heartbeat if I lived W of Milton, but too far for where I'm at

I like Galt. It's not insta-join if that bothers you. They have awesome shotgun facilities (no wait). 3 gun, ODPL. I think there might be cowboy action? A full silhouette range. Archery, a trout pond. A game farm...

Just not rifle for a year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As long as I can tag with a regular group from time to time, I wouldn't mind the no instajoin part. Are there any regular groups or practice time slots for 3gun? If I practiced on my own, I'd pick up a lot of bad habits, so it would be better if I could tag with some more experienced members instead to start with anyway. By the way, I was told "no RESTRICTED rifle for a year" by another member. If it's no rifle for a year period, that would be a dealbreaker for me.

I believe the answer to your question is yes but someone else will have to confirm as I don't do 3gun yet. I was told i could bring my AR to 3gun practices/matches prior to the 'one year' wait on rifles.

Definitely gonna confirm that one. I can always shoot off the line at BRRC, so if I can attend a few 3gun practices/matches and get some tips at Galt, it'll be more than worth the drive/admission price. Kinda hard to find a place where handguns guns and long guns can run together.

Guelph has everything you want.
You could spend the time and effort it takes to become a member or... Spend more time looking for a club that's desperate for new members and meets your exacting criteria.

We've run Team Hoser 3-gun, 2-Gun, ODPL Handgun matches...
There's a fella getting CQB going.
and I'm sure ALL these activities would be happy to have people volunteer to help. ..

Helping out is a given and I wouldn't wanna have it any other way  Last time I checked, it would have been REAL rough for me to get any trigger time at GRGC, but since then I've made some tweaks of my schedule, so it's easier to make it out. Unfortunately, according to the website, no new membership applications are being accepted at this time.

Galt has multigun practices on the second Saturday of every month open to members. Galt has some "peculiar" 1 year rules wrt long guns on the handgun range but once you get past those, it's all good. If you'd like more details, PM me.

I'm just checking out Galt. How does it work? You pay for the membership, then for entrance to the individual ranges? So if I want to shoot handgun and rifle it's an extra $130? Do they have any ammo restrictions on shotgun/rifle?

It is a base membership plus the sections you wan tot shoot. For shotguns on the handgun/Rifle ranges it is slugs only. You can't shoot a rifle on the handgun range until you have been a full member for a year, that said you can participate (with your rifle) in official practices and matches in that one year period. As stated above there is a regular 3 gun practice every month. You can PM me for more details if you wish. I am on the board at Galt.

You pay a main membership fee and then you pay "section fees" for each section you want to join. Sections are clays, handgun, indoor handgun, rifle, archery, and fishing. The only ammo restrictions I'm aware of is no steel core ammo. If you call the club on Sundays 9-4 or Wednesdays 4-9 you can speak to Marie and she can give you all of the details on membership rates, etc.

edited to add, SSS beat me to it! :)

I'm a member at brrc and I joined Galt last May si my one year probie period is for restricted rifle is almost up and I can't wait.

I still shot indoor, until the ventilation system issue but that should be fixed soon

I think Galt is a great place and there are a good group of people

Would recommend it

There's a good group of guys associated with Galt's ODPL and 3-Gun. Fantastic range and facilities as well. Once you get past the 1 year wait for rifle on the restricted range, you good to go.
