NP 29 in 7.62x25

It was about 200 USD with 4 .38 Super mags. Range report - hopefully, tomorrow

Did you get the mags from J&G as well? They were out of stock when I bought my barrel. I have Chip Mccormick 38 Super magazines, but they fit only 5 rounds of 7.62 X 25's before they jam at an angle.

Let us know how long the frame lasts.

I'd imagine that the barrel comes with a suggestion for a weight of recoil spring that will correctly cushion the slide and frame. Otherwise the user will simply have to start with too hard a spring and work down to find the one which is just soft enough to allow the slide to lock back after the last shot and which provides the ejected brass with a decent arc to the side.

Provided that is done then the slide and frame will survive as long with the new conversion as it would with any of the other regular chamberings.

Ganderite, that's some pretty impressive shooting for both the gun and you. I'm assuming this was shot from a rest? Even so I'm fast learning that a wrist rest does not automatically assure ultimate accuracy.

If they are going at an angle, is it because you did not seat the bullets deeper? MAx OAL of a 38 Super is about 1.275" The 7.2x25 is longer than that.

I am running it with the Norinco 9mm spring. Seems about right.

As for accuracy, I shoot 2 hands at 20 yards. With a decent gun/ammo I can keep 10 shots in the black. I used to be quite good with a handgun. Shot 100 many times.

This conversion might be the most accurate centrefire pistol I own, and I have a lot of them.

No, I do not reload, actually I havent shot my conversion yet, its still at the gunsmiths. I am just messing around with my magazines and surplus ammunition for now. Do you reload your ammo or just seat the bullets deeper on your surplus ammo?

Initially I just seated the bullets a bit deeper, so they would fit the mag. This is easy to do with a seating die for just about any caliber. 9mm or 38 Spl would work well.

But when I handloaded, I found that every bullet I tried shot tiny groups. It is a heavy pistol, and I had installed target sights. Once I discovered it was a target grade pistol, I have only shot handloads.

The stock hammer spring might very well set off the milsurp ammo. mine had already been changed to a lighter spring, since it was originally set up for 9mm handloads.

Thought that I saw a wartime north korean convert of a 1911 where they relieved some of the metal from inside the mag well so they could extend the mag a bit and 7.62x25 to fit.

Looking for advice on this. I have been informed by my smith that the pistol does not fire consistently. Lots of double and triple strikes required. He has tried replacing the mainspring and firing pin return spring with no change in results. He has also had a couple of pierced primers. I havent picked up the pistol yet, am wondering if there is something overlooked and can be rectified?
Thanks

Try commercial spec ammo....Tradex has some. Military primers are pretty damn hard, plus the ammo is quite old and could have deteriorated primers.

My refinished NP29 is home!! havent taken any pictures yet, hopefully this weekend.
It has been de-horned and KG Koted in flat black, the trigger pull and feel has been worked on and the bushing and barrel fitted to the slide. All work done by Casey at TacOrd.
Next step is the range!! Hopefully the weather gets better soon, my outdoor range runs north south and the wind just cuts right through!!

No range report yet. Too cold to be at my outdoor range!! Some pics for those interested

So I shot it today. Was too windy and cold to shoot for groups. The gun cycles well and I got about 6 misfires in the 40 rounds I fired. 4 fired by the 3rd hammer strike and 2 were complete duds. I am quite impressed with the conversion. Ganderite: when you get misfires or need to unchamber a live round, do you have to drop the mag and then rack the slide to allow the live round to slide down the mag well. Its like the ejection port is too short for a live round.

You will need a stronger hammer spring to get reliable ignition.
If your using full length 7.62x25 rounds then yes you have to drop the mag and let the live round fall through the magwell.

I should have my conversion back in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know what spring works best as I have an assortment of different weight springs from Wolf Springs.
