Help me build a gopher only .22

Although I don't have a scout, I can attest to the crowd crowing about the CZ's. I have a 452 Lux, and when you combine that long barrel with the CCI Segmented Hollow Points cooking along at over 1600 FPS, it is scary accurate. Friends/family accuse me of telling fish tales when I say that if I miss at 100yards, it's because I screwed up. Lot's of people still think that's impossible with a .22lr. Until we head out to a field, wheel out the yardage, put up a flapper, and I make it spin first shot, every shot, until I screw up. I've set 0 on the scope for a beautiful 25yd/75yd arc, and at 100yards it's only dropped about 2&1/2 inches.

CCI .22LR SHP gets a lot of grief as an inaccurate round from a lot of guys, and I know why. It's just too hot for my 10/22, or my old CIL/Anschutz 125, and they can't group for crap with it. My 452 has a love affair with it. I'm going to mark out some yardsticks in the spring and start seeing what it can really do, going to try and work my way out to 200 (might be unrealistic, but won't know until I try).

Beautiful wood. Fantastic trigger and action. Dunno about the Scouts, but the triggers are adjustable on the 452 (455) CZ's down to a couple of pounds. Fit and finish is amazing. I've tried the Savages, and yah, they're accurate, but that blade safety lighting trigger thingermabob drives me batty.

Not 100% current - I've added a bipod, because the rifle warrants it. Leupold VX1 2-7x scope:

Maybe, judging from the responses, the op should focus his energies on one good quality bolt action set-up instead of a spray'n'pray and so so bolt. Any gun from the CZ family with a good scope will put a smile on when out in the field. A little side trip to the CZ forum over at Rimfire central will give some insight to the strong following that CZ's have.

I know you said .22 but have you ever thought about a Rimfire Mach2? My .22 hasn't seen any action in about 4 years now.

I had thought about it, but it came down to price. I usually shoot a couple thousand rounds a weekend, and I don't know if the advantages of the .17HM2 would outweigh the increase in ammo cost.

I have a stable of CZ rifles, and my 16" 452 American is my favourite. Small, light, and deadly accurate. I've never shot a scout, but my American has the same length of barrel with a full sized length of pull.

Now if I could just get my hands on an Ultra Lux...

Thanks,
Cal.

OK so I've been convinced, CZ Scout it is!

I haven't decided on the scope yet, but I have two follow up questions.

What rings would be good? I've only used rings that come w/ scopes before, what should I look for?

Also, bipod. Preferably being a gopher gun that is mainly shot off hand, it would be nice if the bipod is easily detachable, like 1 click on and off. So I can take it off and stick it in a back pocket when shooting standing, but if go prone snap it on and pretend to be a sniper.

Any recommendations?

The scout has 11mm rail. Not many scopes come with that combo most are 3/8".
A 1" tube scope is easier to get rings for than a 30mm scope. Find a nice 3 to 9 40 mm or smaller front end and it won't be to difficult.I use warns on mine in 1" and they are quite good. The rail rises scope somewhat but that isn't a real concern. The reason for the small front glass is I kept the rear sight intact. You can also get 1" in quick d.

Talley make great rings, , or if you like, you can get leupold rimfire rings for around $20 that work just fine.
