Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if I may solicit the advice of those of you who have experience with the Dlask barrels. I'm wondering about your thoughts on the Extreme (Bentz) chambering versus the Sporter chambering. A number of well respected uses on here recommend the sporter chambering, but most of what I read elsewhere says to avoid sporter chamberings due to a decrease in accuracy. I realize that each manufacturer varies somewhat in their definition, and hence dimensions, of each chambering...hence me requesting those of you with experience with the Dlask barrels.

I'm looking for that magical land (that probably doesn't exist) between accuracy and reliability such that I could come as close as possible to the accuracy of my CZ 452s, with the reliability of a finely beaten glock.

So what would you advise? Extreme or Sporter, and why?

Thanks again everyone,
Cal.

I have the sporter only so I can't really give you a comparison. All I can say is I group 3/4" @ 50yds with CCI blazer ammo. I have printed some 1/2" groups, but the average group size is .780" (roughly 3/4"). And it cycles good 99% of the time (as in about 1 ftf/fte out of 4 twenty five round butler creek mags.

I am not going to vote. I have one of each; different tools for different jobs.

If you want rock solid, any type of ammo, dependability and good accuracy, get the Sporter.
If you want the best possible accuracy, and don't mind some fine tuning and using only some types of ammo get the X-terme.

8" Sporter on SR-22:

This.
I also have one of each.
I also didn't vote.

Use caution with your ammo choice if you go with the match chamber, it is a known problem for the match chambers to have out of battery detonations with bulk ammo, you will lose your extractor and spring at a minimum, and can very easily get injured.

I know because this issue happened to me last year.

I voted sporter cause I'm on my iPhone and my finger didn't select as I wanted lol :). I would try the extreme myself. I have a 10/22T with a "target" chamber, some ammo creates a jammo matic. Some however just puts a smile on your face :).

First I've heard of it. How did the chamber ammo combo cause an out of battery detonation?

Bulk ammo with some brands can be too tight/ oversized/ have too much wax on them for the tightly cut match chambers, resulting in the cartridge possibly not fully chambering, being 1/8" or more out of battery. The design of the 10/22 is such that the hammer can still strike the firing pin while out of battery and cause a detonation.

My X-treme likes Federal Auto Match best, but also runs very well on Remington Subsonic.

It runs well on CCI Blazer for short periods of time, but it is a very dirty ammo and the crud and lead buildup start to affect reliability after 100 rounds or so.

It does not like Fed Bulk, which is a real shame since I have huge amounts of it :( , AE, Winchester of any type, most Remington (except Subsonic as mentioned)...

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies. For those of you who voted Extreme, what ammo do you find runs best? What's the cheapest ammo that runs reliably?

Thanks again everyone,
Cal.

If looking for cheap ammo, the sporter would be my pick. There is a nice tactical solutions barrel on the ee right now, that's what I run and it does well with everything I feed it. Pretty darn accurate with cheaper mini mags too. I'm thinking it would be similar to the dlask sporter, though I have no experience with dlask barrels.

I have the 8" Xtreme and AE hp functions pretty well but the live rounds won't extract, even with a Tactical Solutions extractor.Anything Winchester that I tried will not fit in the chamber, case diameter is too big.I would give up a little bit of accuracy to have 100% reliability.

I've got an extreme chambered barrel on my SR-22, so far I've ran about 4 bricks of dirty winchester wildcat through it. Its been pretty much spot on as far as chambering all the rounds. On the other hand though, if you get a dud round that does not go off as often happens with cheap bulk ammo, extraction can be a headache. My 10 22 will not extract live rounds as the bullet is engaging the lands of the rifling and the stock extractor just does not have enough bite to pull it out. This can be a real PITA if you do not have a knife or some sort of tool to remove the round manually. As long as you don't mind running decent ammo all the time you shouldn't have many problems. If not go with the sporter, as the issue I mentioned above won't be one.

Federal Gold Medal Target (load 711B) works perfectly in mine. I've gone through thousands of rounds without a problem. Federal 714 is usually OK too, and even cheaper but I did get a substandard case of that once that did not cycle well. SK+ also works but I don't like using ammo with such a heavy lube in a semi. Have never had any failure to eject issues. As always, YMMV.

Just wondering if you have taken weight into accout? Both barrels are heavier than the stock barrel.
Its personal prefrence, but I spent the extra money and bought a tactical solutions barrel.
16" wicked accurate. The same as the dar extreme but less than a quarter the weight!
The barrel is 15oz so just under a pound.
Also the 8" barrel is really loud. FYI I wouldnt shoot without muffs or plugs!
Hope you took this into account.
Have fun shooting!

I had the same problem with match semi auto ammo it was bulk but it just went inside ways and went pow out side of the whole barrel so it exploded like a mini lead bomb. Didn't damage anything

Ok the difference between the extreme and sporter chamber is it doesn't like longer rounds like the CCI stinger and a few other with a longer bullet. The difference is they cut the chamber to be a little bit longer to allow the longer rounds to fit properly and not causes problems. Other then that there is no difference I find accuracy out of both is the same I couldn't tell a difference most people that get the xtreame chamber get it reamed out to the sporter instead unless they're shooting match ammo for compatitions. Dlask only makes the xtreme chamber on the 16 inch barrel only but you can get it with both.

I have a 10.5 inch barrel for 1 10/22 and another 16 with a match barrel that I use with match ammo I found no difference between the 2 only the 10.5 has a flame at the end when you shoot it and the round isn't as snappy ie it's slower. The 12 inch barrel is the sweet spot for length velocity and accuracy as the 16 adds more power behind the round but the accuracy is about the same. The 8 inch ones shoot really well they're just not as powerful as there is less barrel for the round to pick up speed so length comes into play when you look at FPS.

If you want fast rounds 16 inch gives you the most speed you don't lose a whole lot if you go with 12 8 inch you lose around 400 fps just like if you look at a pistol vs a rifle with 22lr ammo just search google for barrel vs velocity for 22lr and you will find many results that will show you how fast and how slow the round is going. At 100 yards they all shoot just fine.
