I did up a bunch of loads for my new Savage Long Range Precision rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have it topped with a brand new SIII 10-50x60 and man is that a sweet scope!

I have loaded up many loads in the last month or so, all in Hornady brass of course with CCI Benchrest Large Rifle Primers. Among the bullets I loaded were 108, 123 and 139 grn Scenars, 120 grn Amax and 95grn Vmax and even 120grn Nosler Ballistic Tip huntings. All turned in an inch or slightly more at 100yrds.

Finally, here was the magic bullet. Note the black circle is 5.5 inches across. Picture follows!

Here's the load, and the powder surprised me! 140 grn Berger Long Range Target's with 39.0 grn of Big Game @COL of 2.820. I had to double check my load data after I fired to make sure this was the best grouping powder. And yes it shot several more similar groups. One 10 round group in a similar size hole. I just remembered to take photos of this one....

Anyone else use a lot of Ramshot? I bought a pound of Big Game to play around with as I use a lot of TAC and Exterminator and so was curious. I also bought a pound of Magnum at the time and its my .338 Lapua best powder now as well, tuning in MOA groups. Anyone else getting good results with Ramshot powders? FYI it meters like a dream!

Nosler now makes brass for 6.5 Creedmoor in case anyone else missed that.

Im done droning on now. But was a little happy and had to share. I'll be backing up in the next little while and I'll let you know if the loads keeps working.

Creamy.

Great shooting. You really need to get out to 3-400 for load dev. I had a 41g (H4350) and 42g load with 142 SMK's. The 42g at 100 yards was 1/2 Moa load. At 400 it went to 1.25 Moa. The 41g load is 5/8 Moa to 1100 yards. Coal is 2.833 for mine.

Going to start going back by 100's now, figure out my drops and go from there. My range is 600 so I have a bit of work ahead. I also have a load with the 120 grn Amax's with Superformance that performed well also.

Just to keep it updated if anyone's interested. I shot out to 200 today with the few bullets I had left to put together. Same load as up top. Sorry about the picture, I forgot to take a pic of the whole target this time before, as is my habit, I put it in my little ledger with notes to remind me what each did after cutting it small enough. As you can see it's a small ledger.

So I got 1 flyer and didn't have enough to shoot another string. The other 11 I had made nice groups as well at 200. Soon as I get some more bullets, I'll step back to 300. So far so good. At least I have 2 pds of Big Game to keep me going for a while....

Very impressive! I have the exact same rig except I have a Vortex 6x24x50 PST on mine. I managed to find a box of 140 grain Berger's at WSS, PN: 26409 - same thing you're using? I have some Federal 210M's but no luck finding Big Game in town...sounds like it's a winner though.

Yup. Same bullet. 26409. I was looking for the Hybrids as this is my first foray into long range target shooting. Mostly I sight in for hunting and shoot those guns. But there were no hybrids, and thers were at WSS. Seem to be working fine.

Next week at my Jarnac place ( Gatineau ) my custom 6.5 Creedmoor will be broken in, fun times ahead... JP.

6.5 Creedmoor.... Now with more Tac-21!! (WARNING PIC HEAVY)

Time for a midwinter update.:rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:

Ok so because of the winter I havent been able to shoot for groups to keep moving out. I was looking around and the Tac-21 chassis caught my eye. I checked in with MDT to see if the LRP would fit in the Tac-21 as none of the other Model 12's in the Target Rifle group from Savages website would fit. MDT advised I'd be GTG so I went for a chassis in FDE. Everything in my cabinet was black so I thought I'd add a bright colourful gun to the pile....

So here's what showed up. It's a nice packing box, put together and presented well. And the gun I have, sans glass.

Next, pulled apart the LRP.

And finally yanked apart the trigger. Im fairly new to trigger groups. This made me nervous. I took many photos to make sure I could get it back together. In particular if you do this I recommend getting photos of the sear spring assembly.

Once the triggers back in, the bottom portion is placed back on. I thought I took a photo of the trigger group uncovered, but I guess I didn't. Getting the sear spring back in, and the pin to hold it all together is a major frustrating pain in my #$@. I would even go so far as to say it's a dirty &%#@ of a job and frustrating as all %&^$ get out. I even used that word the ladies don't like to hear when I had to start over with the $#%&'en thing again for the 5th or 6th time. Getting it in took me near 2 hours. It's utterly %$#@'en mentally taxing. My fingertips are &@%$'en raw. Anyway.... here's what that looks like. I think the puurdy red trigger looks good in it. But %$#@ me, I worked for it....

You slip the bolt in, and you feel like you're getting somewhere finally. At this point is my one complaint. The screws that hold the front piece on don't go flush. Maybe mines a one off error, but a piece like this shouldn't have screws sticking out to snag on hands that may slid back and forth. Also, I put the front Pic 1913 rail on as an option as I don't like hooking up to studs. I use the ARMS Bipod adapter.

So here's what it looks like with the buffer tube, a stock, currently a placeholder and a basic AR grip. Im waiting for an Ergo Grip with Palm Plate and a Magpul PRS in FDE.

I'd like to say to 2 of our sponsors, who'll remain unnamed, that if all you have is CanPar shipping, and its 65 bucks for a stock... even if you 2 are the only ones to have it in stock... I'll order from Wolverine and wait for the 15 dollar Canada Post shipping. 65 bucks plus harmonized sales tax?? That's nuts. Plus, Wolverine is also a great phone experience.... another hint.

Next I mounted my Sightron 10-50x60 in A.R.M.S. #35 rail and #35 medium mounts. This is an excellent setup guys. If you change scopes you can change the mount. No more buying new rings. And you can buy different height risers. And move the mounts in and out on the rail. And it's all steel. AND it's quick mount. And all done it's 200 bucks. Not 325.

Bolt side.

And a close up of the bolt and safety.

And FINALLY.... the whole gun.

FullRifleComplete_zps1aea316e.jpg

SO yeah. That's it. Seems like a great product, I'll update when the last parts come in, get the scope mounted properly, and get out and shoot soon as I can. This is a heavy beast now, exactly what I wanted. As the gun shot very well in the first place, this better be equal. Mostly here I'm looking for the ergonomics of the chassis, but the built in 20 MOA rail and magazine upgrade (to AI 5 or 10 rounders) is very nice. We'll see how it shoots. Hopefully soon... as I have 150 rounds loaded. A friend of mine bought the F/TR Savage. It's going to be an interesting summer this year.

And yes, that's another #35 mount. They're that good.

Party on.

Another quick addition to my ongoing thread, of course still unable to shoot until the snow buggers off....

Anyway, I was looking around for a bipod for long range shooting for this rig. The M-Pod is the one I liked most, but what I DIDNT like from all the high end bipods was the 350 range price tag... So I decided to get together with another guy and we built 2 bipods. These are dedicated bench pipods, set to the height required for the guns we have. This is my pod, and it's cut from 5/8's aluminum stock. Designed on the computer, printed, traced and cut by hand. Cut out legs, and the rounded part that the adjustable bolt rides in. The wheel on the bolt is micarta, cut, holes drilled, tapped and polished. Its strong and light for the wheel, as an aluminum wheel made the pod too heavy and it would tip over.

Still to come is the attachment to the rail, which we are still designing, probably a bushing will be used for the rotating part. The whole thing will get flat black to match the rest of the gun. Overall, its very light and stupid strong. Its nice not to have to compromise..... and have something built myself. Hopefully it performs as expected.

Pics later when it's done.

Very nice I have a savage model 11 long range edition 6.5 creedmoor with factory muzzle break, I just bought a bunch of hornady brass and 140 gr tips along with the hornady dies, was planning on loading with varget and see what I get, I'm just not sure what scope to slap on this thing, any suggestions?

Can I ask you where you ordered the PRS stock from? I'm having a hell of a time finding one in stock in Canada.

EDIT: Never mind. Got one from Amazon.ca
