Least favourite cartridge?

There is but one cartridge that I have no use for, well maybe one caliber, and that would be anything in a .277 groove dia. What in Gods name possessed anyone to create such an abortion is beyond me when the 264 and 284 already existed. Trust the Americans to do something like this though, cause the other 2 have metric names and "we couldn't have that, how would we ever figure out what size they really was". Nowhere else on the planet is there another cartridge using a .277 bullet, except the 3 abortions "Made in America". Roy Weatherby even hated it and said it was his least favorite of his calibers but being a contemporary of O'Connor and seeing the influence he was peddling, he felt it necessary for smart marketing. I never liked O'Connor either !!!
Even the Brits, with their way of really screwing up calibers, never happened upon a .277. It's even dumber than a 23 caliber in my estimation...........;)

Really you have to ask yourself, if you woke up tomorrow and the 277 didn't exist and never had, would you notice? Would the hunting scene really be changed? Would there be a whole class of animals that couldn't have been taken because the .277 bore didn't exist? REALLY.............

Actually the Brits were the ones to stumble across the 27 calibre. Devised around 1910 it was to replace the 303 which had been much maligned in the Boer war, chambered in the newfangled P13. Instead, WWI got in the way and now everyone and their dog has or used to have a tree o tree.

There would be a heckuva lot fewer deer in the freezer round my place if not for the 270. :). It's the 17's that just don't do it for me...

7mm Rem Mag, it's ok if your wife wants to shoot a "Magnum" rifle. I know it is generally considered the laser beam of death but I have no use for it.

You should open a book ... with the new High BC bullets on the market it hits as hard as anything at 1000 yards unless you get into .338's. When the 195 berger hits the market this year ... Pretty badass

My least favorite cartridge is the 30-06. I will never own one and never want to own one because everyone has one and there are better cartridges out there.

For me its pretty hard to say since the ones I mention can kill most game. dislike 30-06 and 270 overrated and almost uses them in my area. I my self use 8mm mauser and 6.5x55 of corse I reload for them to get them to full power. 150gr bullet in my 8mm flies just over 2900fts, 170gr over 2700, and 195gr over 2500fts. For 6.5mm I use 140gr over 2600fts. I've killed lots of deer and a few moose with these which cover my needs.

I have many books and a 338 Lapua and a 338 RUM, 7mm Mag still doesn't impress me.

I need to fess up. After dissing the 7mm-08 in my earlier post I've actually bought one. Why? Because it closely duplicates the performance of the 7x57 and finding a new 7x57 stainless synthetic rifle was impossible.......because of the short action hype! But it's a great cal.

Fun read and some interesting points. To choose a least favorite I'd pick the 17 wsm rimfire. It's horrible but as a group the whole WSM and rsaum I dislike. Like women I like long sleek ###y ones not short fat ones. I don't see the need or want. I like heavy for caliber bullets at modest velocity except my 25/06. Groundhogs and coyotes. Wolves and deer even black bear. It's a perfect balance for Ontario if you exclude moose and elk but they can be cleanly taken as well
