So I see cam pro 158, Berrys 158,
Berrys for 38 special and not 357 mag cause it's not jacketed to survive a heavy crimp???? What about cam pro?
Any other options out there?
I shoot Rainier plated bullets in every handgun I own, for the .357 and .44 mag I bought taper crimp dies. I do not use a roll crimp with light to med practice ammunition.
The pressure and velocity chart below is from Quickload, I have a five inch S&W model 29 so to tame the beast I use fast powders. The green dotted line is 95% of powder burnt and the purple line is 100% of powder burnt. You don't need a massive roll crimp with med to fast burning powders to burn all the powder. The load below has a light taper crimp and that is all that is needed.
Jacketed bullets are also used to reduce leading. Leading tends to occur with soft lead bullets at about 900fps or more (such as the 357 magnum).
Some guns like certain bullets. I have one Smith & Wesson that is superb with 158gr (38 special or jacketed 357) but throws lighter bullets all over the place.
i shoot berry's (158gr RN) to full house speeds with 15gr of h110 without issue, it's accurate enough for me. i also shoot my cast 158gr gas checked bullets with the same load.
