household white vinegar cover you gun in it for 5 min and the blue just wipes off,i would suggest a VERY LIGHT sanding afterwards as that is all that is req.
I found a rust remover jelly in a red and white bottle at Canadian tire that worked nicely on cleaning up a used sks I baught but it does stain the blueing or remove it a bit to a lighter steel colour but it hasn't rusted since in those areas
Birchwood casey still makes a product, but they are not being imported into Canada anymore due to no french labeling (quebec made a stink about it)
Can still be bought off ebay though!

x2 although this may be the stuff you were saying your Canadian Tire no longer carries. Mine still stocks Evaporust and as a general rust/blue remover, it works great and is relatively affordable ($10/L).
For only removing rust I use RB-17, it's fantastic stuff. For rust I use white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide mixed 50/50 then rub the bluing off with steel wool.
Yes. The white vinegar works really good. found that out accidently on my side lock. Melted the blueing right off and I don't think there would have been more than 25% vinegar in the water. Oh well!! LOL! Gives me a project.
