As the title says I'm looking for some help on selecting a good set of rings to go with my first rifle setup. Iv'e been reading around and it seems like Talley, Burris and Leupold are the front runners for the rings without breaking the bank, is this correct? any recommendations?

As the price for all three of these rings are very similar and all seem to be well liked, I am leaning towards the Burris Signature Zee's as they have the insert in them so you don't mark up your scope. Though if anyone had a better suggestion or recommendation I would much rather a scope that stayed true then a non marked up scope that wasn't as reliable.

Also, I'm looking at mounting these on a Ruger American, am I correct that they will attach to the factory base with no problems?

Cheers

Most rings can be lapped while mounted (just the bottoms) so the scope is not marked and not under stress... Burris Signature rings eliminate that need. They work very well. Buy them...

Thanks! Sounds like I will be picking up a couple sets of signature zee's

Do it, you won't regret it at all. I use talley's, still highly recommend the burris. They are more available, well built, and have yet to see anyone have any trouble with them.

Me too, all I own are burris with inserts. The one thing I dislike is the crossbolt. There is only weaver style, which does work with picatinny, but doesn't completely fill up the channel. My other complaint about the crossbolt is that it's a flathead, although looking at the website now it seems like they've changed to torx. I wonder if I contact them whether they can send me some replacements...
