Tritium Sights

A question for anyone who may know the answer...I have a former police SIG P226 with night sights. I have had the pistol for several years and the sights are getting dim. Is it possible to have them "recharged"? And if so, where, how and how much? Thanks.

Going through the same problems now with mine that are more than 20 years old. Yes, some can be recharged by the manufacturer of the sights. Trijicon for sure. You have to know what brand of sight they are ie Tijicon, Meprolite, SIGlite etc. Try your local store and see if they will handle it for you. I believe you just give them the slide and they mail it off for the recharge. No idea of cost. I went with getting new Trijicons for mine to replace my old ones. My local store has ordered the sights and awaiting them now. New sights run about $160 before tax. Did not feel comfortable with sending my toys all over what with all the horror stories I read on CGN.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking I would have to send the slide off to some authorized centre somewhere. Like you, I am not too interested in doing that. Other than an 8 on the rear sight and a 6 on the front, there is no indication of who makes the sights. I assume they would have to be removed to determine that. What make of replacement sight did you order for yours? I will have to ask at my local LGS about it as well, then.

My original sights 20 years ago were I think Meprolites but I could be wrong. It WAS 20 years ago! My new ones will be Trijicons. I was pushed into action to buy new ones when I actually loosened the front sight on my Browning HP and it drifted out of its dovetail. Could not understand why I could not hit the target till I got home to clean the gun and noticed the sight had drifted 2mm to the right! I think going to your fave local store is the best option esp. if they have a gunsmithing service. The only bad part is you have to sight the gun in yourself then loctite the sights in. With your SIG, you only have to worry about the rear sight.
Since you are changing sights, look into tritium rears, fiberoptic front or yellow rear/ green front combos just to spice things up!

Thanks. Sounds like you are having a bit of an adventure with your sight replacement. I'll see what my local pusher can do for me; the gun is very accurate with it's favourite load so maybe I should treat it to some cool sights.

I went with standard green on green b/ c I like the missionary position!! Wa, wa, wa!
PS the Trijicons ones can be recharged for a fact so at least that gives you an option 15 years down the road...assuming the S has not HTF yet!

Meprolites have a "stated" useful life of 12 years (in the fine print) and sure enough that's when mine "died".
