Most Accurate OTS .22LR?

I am biased...........so I have to say CZ anything............

but then again, I am biased.........

For the number of CZ rifles that sell in a given year I am aware of 3 lemons........I can't comment on the savage front because no one I know shoots a savage rimfire............

There's no doubt that you'll save a couple of hundred buying a Savage over a CZ. So is the CZ that much more accurate? Hard to say since I've seen some VERY NICE shooting Savages and CZ's. Good enough that either will get the job done if the guy attached to the trigger is good enough.

Savages are certainly a little rougher feeling out of the box but with a little use and lube they burnish in the actions and feel slick. CZ's start out a little nicer but still a little sticky but burnish in the bolt sooner.

One thing where CZ's have it all over the Savage is in the mass of the receiver. Looking at the main body the CZ clearly wins in the wall thickness and smaller cutouts. So all else being equal the CZ should be stiffer and overall have a higher potential for good accuracy.

But there are lots of other factors that also come into play. Bedding of the action in Savages leaves something to be desired. The action even on my BTV wobbles around when the screws are not holding it. Yet it shoots really well with dainty little nickel to quarter size groups at 50 yards if I do my part. I can't comment on how well bedded CZ's are out of the box.

Bottom line? I would say that CZ is likely a little better. Better enough to justify the added cost? For equivalent models the cost is around $150 to $200 more for CZ. And it would appear to give anywhere from no smaller to perhaps 3/8" smaller groups.

But some of this could perhaps be made up for with a better scope and buying better quality ammo.

It all just depends on how much you have to spend and how important it is to shave off that last little bit of group size.

just another tidbit of info on the CZ you will see more guys using a CZ action on the Benchrest Line than a Savage Action.

They make a GREAT rifle and you won't go wrong buying one. you lose little to nothing if you ever decide to sell it.

I went through the same decision making process last year, and ended up with a CZ. Just felt so much nicer to hold, the fit and trim seemed miles ahead of the Savages, very pretty walnut stocks as opposed to stocks made from that ever so rare in the wild "laminate tree"...

But the real clincher for me was the trigger. That accu-trigger blade safety thingermabob just feels so wrong to me. I want a clean crisp trigger with nothing in the way. The 452/455 have adjustable triggers you can dial way down (or fairly far up, if that's your thang), and are really consistent. Took a few hundred rounds through the CZ before the bolt was as smooth as I wanted it, but now it just flies back and forth.

The extra $150-200 for the fit and finish and quality of a CZ to me is worth it. That is a question only the purchaser can answer. I have three Mark II's and a three Cz's (American,Varmint and a Lux) and they all shoot great but out of the box CZ's have just a very slight edge on accuracy on the ones I bought.

Thank's guys.

I have done quite a bit of reading since i last posted in thies thread and have pretty much decided i'm going to go with a CZ 455. The only problem i'm now having is deciding between one in .17HMR or .22LR. I do already have an old Lakefield 64B that i grew up with that shoots minute of gopher quite well. This has me leaning towards one in .17HMR. I can always go buy a .22 barrel for it later if i want or can't find that combo special that wolverine had going again.

As far as glass goes, the scope i bought for my .300WinMag last year was a budget choice at the time, and i plan on replacing it with a bit better scope, so i've got glass for the CZ :sniper:

Nice to come back and see a thread that's re-inforcing the conclusion i've come to

Its much cheaper and easier to buy the combo package than to look for a barrel later. You will probably save at least $100. As well - both barrels will come fit to the action from the factory.

The Combos are not a 'special issue' they are all over, just phone around. Consider also that the 'American' variant will have a clean barrel without iron sights and a straight stock, but the 'LUX' will have the sweet curved stock and iron sights.

Savage MK II FVSR was one of the most accurate rimfire bolts I've had. I also truly enjoyed the quality of the CZ 452, 453 s and of course the 455 l. Owned them all and can't go wrong.

The CZ rimfires are built like Centre fire rifles.

haven't had that specific Savage, but do have a MKII FSS and it's been great for the price... really cheap feeling, but once you get past that, it does shoot.

the CZ Farmer I had was fantastic too.

For gophers, it's hard to beat the CZ line, unless one was to become acquainted with a Browning T-Bolt.
Get the trigger worked and with the two ten shot mags that are stored on the little rascal there is
nothing not to like.
And I would put this digital cammoed gal up against my two CZ's without risking a blink of an eye.

That sure is nice camo. I can't even see it on the screen.... :D

Looking around at the price of .17 ammo I just can't see it unless I'm getting a bounty for every gopher or the farmer is supplying the ammo for my fun times. But that may be my frugal Scottish side showing through.....

EDIT- Oh wait, you DID call it digital camo. THAT'S why I can't see it on my 'puter screen.... :D

you need higher resolution with more pixels on your screen setting, then you can see it............but I gotta ask.......why did you go with the snow camo kamo-looky??

I as well was asking this same question. I like the way the Boyds stock Savages look, I like the wood better and I like that they are Canadian and cheaper as well.

However, I ended up with a 452 Varmint, and I am happy with it. I have put a lighter trigger spring in it, and shot it twice now. I can consistently shoot MOA or JUST over it with an $80 scope and just regular old CCI mini mags.

It is smooth and consistant. If I pull one high or wide etc, I can tell I did it, its not a mystery as to why.

I would like a nice Boyds thumbhole laminate stock for it sometime, and work a little more with the trigger, but its quite a nice rifle. as others have said, it is made like a centerfire rifle.

My first CZ was a 452 THV, found it to be too heavy in the field, traded it off for a 452 LUX. Both shoot very well. Next in line were the 455 FS and a Scout. Can't see any more coming my way, just shoot and enjoy what I've got.

Well, I couldn't find a 455 in 17HMR, but I did find a 455 Lux Supermatch .22LR in Wholesports in Saskatoon. Price was too good compared to what I was seeing everywhere else for them. It's now sitting next to my other rifles :D. I'll just have to pick up the barrel later, I saved enough on the rifle that it should cover about 50% of the price of the 17hmr barrel, if the price that W.S. gave me is reliable.

Very beautiful rifle, stripped it, cleaned it, put it back together. Gotta head to the range soon and put some rounds through it. The function test target was with the rifle, they managed a .75 inch group at 50 meters. Lord knows what ammunition the Czechs used though. I'll go pick up some CCI Standard Velocity's and take my Blazers and Stingers out and see how it does :D.

yer start'n ta ware off on the youngins.......just gotz one of them there e-males ask'n if I still gots tem kits.........

I's gonna hafta look fer a thread about yer der trigger kits.
